I want to breed my RIR

I have a bunch of bantams, and 1 big, fat, beautiful RIR who is 2 1/2 years old. She's never gone broody, but I want to breed her. I want to see what I get when she mixes with my Old English, Silver Seabright, and Golden Seabright roosters. I do NOT want any more bantams. Their eggs are too...

Thank God for Equine Vet Assistants!

My dogs attacked my chickens last night. And I was just starting to trust them (Grrr!). They killed one, and one they must've tried to get because I couldn't find her until evening when she came home to roost, and I saw a dog attacking another, and the dog let go when I hollered. That...

Did you know that grapes and raisins are toxic to dogs?

Quote: People will think I'm aweful for it, but I completely agree. After all, how many people will give up cheesecake just because it's fattening and high cholesteral and sugar? I had a dog as a kid who would pick grapes off of our grapevines one at a time and eat them. It was really...

Quote: I have 2 Silver Seabright roo's and 2 hens, 1 Old English roo, and 2 hens, 1 Golden Seabright roo, 1 Blue Cochin hen, 1 White Cochin hen, and we just lost our Mottled Cochin hen. We have 1 2 year old RIR, and we replaced the Mottled Cochin with 1 Buff Orpington hen, and 1 pretty little...

    I'm so excited!:D

Quote: They're not organic. I don't want to go to all that trouble. They are free range. They get my whole front yard, and sometimes go in the back with my dogs, who ate my last chickens, but have been great with these. I think they just didn't realize that the last ones belonged here...

    I'm so excited!:D

I have 6 Bantams hens, 4 Bantam rooster's (various breeds, all 4 months old), and 1 Very fat RIR:). The first Bantam started laying tiny brown eggs about a week ago, and today there was a tiny white egg. They're so cute, they're about the size of a robin's egg. I can't wait till I can start...

Hen caught in the rain. Pants a lot. Please help.

Thanks for all of the replys. She wasn't milking it for sympathy, she died that night. It wasn't just a little rain shower she was in. It was sheets of rain, unlike we usually get in Idaho. Not something chickens would choose to be in.

Hen caught in the rain. Pants a lot. Please help.

My 3 year old son found his 4 month hen laying down, drenched today. We had a couple of major downpours, and I figure she just got we and stuck. She's a mottled Cochin, and I think all of those wet feathers just weighed her down. She could barely hold her head up, but once I got her blow...

    Is my cracked egg rotten?

I had 3 eggs in my dome incubator. One I candled, and the chick had died, the other 2 had blue shells, and I couldn't see anything. They were just black, so I kept trying with them. One of them hatched on day 18, and the chick is doing wonderful:D. The other is on day 21 now, and I just...
