Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

Just wanted to say thanks to all of the OTs for keeping this thread alive. I've lurked here quite often since the beginning. Very informative to say the least. Bee, Al, Fred, MFB, Fowlman, Marshall Family and others have made this thread a treat. Just good down to earth info that makes...

    Fowl Pox, broodyness now molting?

I have to concur with Den. Our BOs went broody during the heat of the summer, then came up with fowl pox. Laying went to nothing for a while. Broodiness and heat related I believe. I did boost the protein since there were new chicks involved and eventually went back to layer feed this week...

    Advice Please!

Your BO would likely be the occasional escapee. That's from my experience. Not often and never go far. Dave

Buff Oprington and a light or buff brahma mix?

OK, no pics but we have three chicks hatched mid May. Light Brahma roo and BO hen. Solid white with light gray cape with flecks of black in the hind section. Feathered more like an Orp than a Brahma. Pretty birds. Great personalties.

NH, a well placed shot, NOT AT THE HAWK WOULD DO WELL, to scare the bird away. There is not a lot we can do with them other than scare them off. They love to perch in the tall pines behind our yard and love to look at the little white and buff targets below. Our only loss was a pullet who...

    A dilema

A long story but we ended up with 4 one week old chicks and their broody mom. We have a six by four raised (3 ft) coop and 200 sq feet of run space but the coop space is not conducive to brooding chicks separately. Last evening Mom decides that the chicks need to hit the ground (at one...

So I have a question for the OTs or anyone who has experienced ground water issues. I followed the advice from Pat's Muddy Run page and that worked just fine for a while. Still have sand left from the 2 tons of sand that I started with. The problem is that the ground slopes away but just sits...

Hey Bee, That looks great but the the most wonderful thing is that the birds won't care!! Great job. Dave
