    Dumb question..

Tonight will be my chicks first night in the coop. It's hot outside. Windows stay open, I'm assuming, or do I close them?

    Why don't they like her???

I have an EE that's about 10 weeks old now or thereabout. A while back, her brooder mates picked out all of her back feathers and that was horrible. She healed up from that and ever since, we've been trying to get the other chickens to accept her. We've done the thing where we section her off...

    5 week old Cuckoo Marans

Just making sure she's a she... The comb is pretty big but it has been since she hatched. Just checking to see what everyone else thinks.
  4. JustClucky

    What do you think?

Cockerel or pullet? (the one in the middle, about 4 weeks old)
  5. JustClucky

Do I have to cull him?

Or her. Don't know yet. I posted about my 4 week old GLW going cannibal on one of my 6 week old EE's. He/she tore out her back feathers and then started going for meat. Her back is a mess and I can tell that she's in some pain. I've cleaned it, sprayed Blue Kote on it but the other chicks...

Help!!! One chick picked out all the back feather of another! *PIC

Her back is pretty bloody where this bird, about 4 weeks old, has picked along her back. It's pretty bad... I'm not sure which it was but I've separated them all. First of all, how do I treat the injured chick? She's about a 5 week old EE. Next, what do I do with the one who was picking at...

    Escape!!!

We were gone for 6.5 hours today! Before we left, I opened a brooder bin that has 4 chicks. 2 EE and 2 GLW. I checked on them, gave them cuddles and then my daughter was right behind me with cuddles for them, too and I told her, 'I'm getting in the shower. Close up the bin when you're done...

    Unmarked bin

I think they were bantams but wasn't sure and I didn't buy any but how do you know whether they're standard or bantams? They were the only chicks they had so I had nothing to compare them to. Just wondering...

    N. Texas person!

I was out with my chicks yesterday letting them poke in the back yard and I heard it clear as a bell and proud as can be. ER-ER-ER-ER-ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR... That's my best roo impression, btw.. It's a long shot but I wondered if that person happens to be a BYC addict since we are, after...

Roo or pullet?--New pics in post #20!

I think he/she's about 3 weeks old. GLW, btw. No wattles but the other GLW has little flaps hanging down. This one's comb area has nothing going on except that it has a tinge of pink. I can't tell. It loves me and I'm hoping it's a pullet. Go to post #20 for new pics.

    What could they have been?

At TSC today and they had plain white fluffed pullets. Does anyone know what they probably were? I fought the urge to get one.

    Chick won't hush!

I have two 4 week old red stars who have been separated from the rest of the chicks because of fighting. I know they want back in but they just can't be trusted overnight with the others. They're in their own brooder just making a low trilling sound and it's working my nerves. Is there any...
  13. JustClucky

    Ok, for real now...

I had posted them before just for fun but now I'm not sure what the heck I got. They're supposed to be SLW bantams but the more feathers they get, the more I think, 'nuh, uh'. What on earth do I have? Don't mind the water. It's been cleaned out and the one in the back is a 5 day old cuckoo...

    Little Miss Picked-on

All the other chicks were enjoying a dirt bath while my little sugar baby here stayed out of their way. She's the one that gets pecked and poked and squawked at. I just assume they're all jealous of her fabulous eyeliner and fluffy cheeks! Isn't she a sweetie?
  15. JustClucky

    Should I keep them separated?

I have two 4 week old red stars and we just got 2 ameraucanas who are the same age. One of the reds has been attacking the newbies and they've just been cowering in the corners of the brooder. I've removed the red who keeps attacking and when I do, the newbies are SO much happier. I know this...

    Solar exhuast fan

We bought our coop pre-fabricated to save time. We're in Texas and our summers get pretty killer so I'm thinking my coop will need more than just a couple of vent windows since I know that for me, opening a window on a hot summer day is no different than camping on the sun itself. SO, I'm not...

    And they arrrrrre???

Chick #1 2 days old Chick #2 4 weeks old Chick #3 4 weeks old I know what they are but I'm just wanting to see how close we can get.
  18. JustClucky

Are these wattles in the making?

Chick is about 2 weeks old. The other chick doesn't have this at all but these fleshy bits sprouted overnight so who knows... I'm assuming this means it's a roo?

    Golden Laced Wyandotte-Updated pics-

I'm new so I can't post pics yet but I was wondering how early you could tell if you've got a roo on your hands? We got 2 newbies last night. One's fluff is brighter than the other's and its face has more color but I have no idea if that means anything. lol I just get the 'I'm a dude' vibe...
