WHy are my chickens pulling out the feathers on thier backs, right before thier big tail feathers.
It is not breed specific, because 80% of my mixed flock is doing it.
Is it egg laying behavior?
Yesterday I was introduced to the cochin for the first time, and I totally fell in love! I was there to get some silkies, and ended up with 2 4 week old blue banty cochins!!! I also got 2 splash silkies also 4 weeks old.
But to my suprise it is the little cochins that have me totally wraped...
Well how the heck are you going to do that? I am have difficulty with the killing part...have yet to do my first.
And what is the definition of a cockerel?

Inherited a flock of 10, 5-8 year old ladies 'bout 7 months ago.
Out of the blue the golden laced wyandotte went broody. SO I got her a mixed dozen fertile eggs and this is the beginning of day 8!
She is sitting tight.

My husband suggested to me that I wait and see how many of our broody's eggs hatch before I over run the coop.

Right now I still have her isolated from the rest of the flock. She is not showing much improvement, but at the same time has not declined further.
I have done a de-wormer treatment on her and all the other ladies.

Got an order from McMurrays on the 19th of May. We had to wait 2 + months for them to be ready, but they came right on time .
We got the rainbow layers collection. Supposed to be all pullets. Time will tell.
All the chicks were healthy happy and active.
Split the 25 with a friend and hers...
Breathing has not been an issue for either of the hens-dead or alive.
Comb color---TERRIBLE. Very dried out looking and almost red-grey. This is one reason why I thought they were simply getting old.
