I have found this organization called World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms.
It is an organization that is devoted to connecting volunteers to organic farms around the globe in exchange for food and lodging.

I am curious to see if anyone on BYC has any experience...
What are some breeds that are good at laying eggs throughout the winter?
Does anybody have any experience with this?
I understand that the winter varies in the United States, but any information will be appreciated.
For hatching eggs you need, controlled temperture, humidity, light (for the tempreture), and rotation. For a greenhouse you need controlled temperture, humidity, and light.
I should be able to use my incubater (considering that it is going to sit for the next several years) as a small...
Question for a semi-new person.
Would a Rooster go and try to repopulate out of his breed?
and if he did would you get different breeds or would something else happen?
Any info would be great.
Thanks
AAAAGGGGHHH!!!!!
I have grown up with the idea of going to college, get an "education", and live my life as everybody else does.
Recently I have been having second thoughts on going to college for a full four year term.
I have this urge to kick my city-life goodbye, buy 150-250 acres and...
One of my RIR hens laid her first egg today! In the nesting box too!
It's kinda funny because my neighbor commented, yesterday, how one of my hens looked a little plumped.
Let's see that is 1 out of 1452 eggs that need to be laid before they start paying for themselves.
One of my 4 month old hens has a half of her wing hanging down, it seems that only the lower portion of the wing is Broken/Sprained.
I am thinking about taking the wing and placing it in its "original" position and then placing a bandage around the wing up against the main part of the body it...
What is the longest amount of time that chicks can survive in the mail?
So far I have 5 RIR pullets that got rerouted and have been in the mail for 47 hours~.
I called the post office and the guy said he may get them by 10:00 tomorrow and he will call me if he does.
I'm just a tad nervous...
I have 7 Rhode Island Red that are about 3 weeks old and are all full feathered.
Right now I am finishing the construction to their coop and would like to have the go out asap.
I figure this should be fine since they would have food, water, shelter, and good temp.
So any thoughts about this?
I would like to try and housebreak my chickens, however I do not know of any good sources to go to on how to go about it.
I have 7 Red Island Red (unknown gender/sex) that are 2.2332-2.4351 weeks old.
So, any references, tips, answers...
I know this is a bit cocky, but I think it would be...
Habemus Pituita!!!
We have a pip!!!
When I went by the incubator around 1230 I noticed on of the eggs have a pip in it!
I am now excited and slightly concerned since their not supposed to start hatching until the 9th. I guess I will have to wait and see what happens.
I'll update when they...
I have recieved my eggs today (and raised several eyebrows at the post office ) and they are in the incubator as planned.
After some thought, I have decided to place a dot on each egg so when I turn them, it willl be easier to identify which ones have been turned and how far they have been...
Right now I am searching for either raw, used, or scrapped materials(lumber, pallets, skids, plastic milk cartons for nesting boxes) to build my coop with.
So, I am wondering if anybody have any ideas (whether good or bad) where I might find such materials for free or at cost/reduced price...
