    Horizontal Nipple Waterers

I ordered these thinking I was going to plumb them directly in, but forgot about needing to reduce the pressure. I've got four separate coops and four separate water supplies, so four pressure valves reducing valves are gonna be expensive.... Has anyone used this...

    Breaking yolks

I'm having a lot of yolks that look like the eggs are "old", but....they aren't. I'm getting a dozen or two eggs a day and I cook most of them within a day or two and feed the scrambled eggs back to the chickens. When I started doing this I cut their feed back from the 20% to the 16%. Is that...

The NEW Crazy 24hr AUCTION thread

You are offering chicks, right? Not eggs? Susan Okay, that was a dumb question, this is the "hatching egg" forum. My apologies.... Boy oh boy, I'm still confused. If this offer is for chicks, I'll take them. Susan the somewhat addled but interested If the offer is for eggs, I will try...

Cuckoo marans Hatching eggs Auction ends ends 4/20/13 @5:00 pm

Can you give me a simple explanation for the possibility of black offspring? It it due to the barring gene being doubled or ???? Okay, obviously I should just wait for an answer and not speculate. Susan

Excellent (not him, but the information). Thanks. Do you -- or does anyone -- have links to pictures of what we are wanting these Lavs to look like? I would love to see them. Thanks Susan

    Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

This is my one and only Lavender Ameraucana. Currently I have a batch of LA eggs incubating away under a broody Cuckoo Marans, which means that by next season I will have at least one or two or too many other LA roos to chose from when breeding with the LA hens. So, what I am wondering, is...

How/where does the blue gene first enter the picture?

Thanks Kev, and darn if I didn't remember that I had just read something here http://scratchcradle.wordpress.com/2012/07/22/gms4-incomplete-dominance-of-blue-feathering/ that blue is due to a gene which inhibits the expression of the black... Susan

How/where does the blue gene first enter the picture?

Quote: And that's my big question: is it a defect in the black gene or an occasional mutation? Hmmm.... Someone is gonna tell me and I'm gonna smack my forehead and say "well, duh....."

How/where does the blue gene first enter the picture?

I don't know quite how to ask this question, but it came up in my thinking about a local offering of Black Copper Marans eggs which the offerer suggested might produce some Blue and/or Splash offspring. Isn't a visually black bird that is carrying the blue gene really the Easter Egger of the...

Did the water trough of the Hovabator Genesis 1588 change?

EXCELLENT !!! Thank you so much. How all of that managed to escape me I don't know, but it did. I will use this 'bator much better from now on....:-))) Susan

Did the water trough of the Hovabator Genesis 1588 change?

Well, as soon as I filled up that middle trough the humidity went to exactly where it was supposed to be. Hurrah. I don't quite understand what you are saying about being able to fill the center troughs without pulling the turner out, so if you have a picture that would be great. However, my...

Did the water trough of the Hovabator Genesis 1588 change?

Ah, Tina, thank you ..... Exactly what I sort of figured out belatedly. Hopefully the developing chickies will forgive my lapse and get on with it.....:-)))) Susan

Did the water trough of the Hovabator Genesis 1588 change?

Here's a picture of the water tray. As you can see, at some point I colored the troughs. The inner and outer ones are red (or were) and the middle is blue. This makes me think that I was supposed to fill the blue ones for one part of the hatch and the blue and the red ones for the other...

Did the water trough of the Hovabator Genesis 1588 change?

Sorry,Cameronfarm, with so much traffic, I missed your response to my question until just how. Later today I will pull the turner and the eggs, add some water, and try to get a picture at the same time.. Thanks.

Did the water trough of the Hovabator Genesis 1588 change?

I am incubating in an older Hova and when I went to the website and downloaded the directions, the description of the clear plastic tray that holds the water doesn't match with mine. The directions say to fill the inner trough for incubating and then both troughs for hatching. But...mine has...
