Anything's possibe, for sure. But, he was quite chatty, friendly and told me what he was planning to do with it. He also made suggestions on where to find others, what issues to look for, etc. I got the impression he was honest.

That predator thing is something I wondered about, but that snake is nowhere to be found. Maybe it was in there at one point, though. It was too dark for DH to make out what kind it was, but it was about 5.5 to 6 feet.

My flock has been dutifully returning to their coop each evening. I fill their water, close their door and let them out again in the morning.
Yesterday morning, I had a dead pullet, a black splash cochin, when I went to let them out. That one always seemed weak, so I am not surprised...

If all the spots looked like the back of the RIRs comb, I would have assumed it was pecking injuries. But, the cochin's eye has a spot on it, the RIR has a small spot on it's ear, and a dot of 'wart' or 'pock' on it's comb side (dark spot in photo). And, well, whatever is wrong with that...
