    Winter lighting question

I have seen it on here somewhere, but I am search engine stupid. I had heard that a string of Christmas lights on for 14 hours a day will keep them laying. I plan on giving them heat lamps, just wondering how to best go about keeping them in light. Thanks for any info. Steve

    Double yolk egg question

I think I know the answer but figured I would ask. I have a hen laying double yolks and I have yet pinpointed the culprit. I have narrowed it down to one cage though. The question: Is it a bad idea to try and hatch these eggs? I have never heard of any kind of bird twins, and figured there...

I just got these out tonight, someone HAS to be SORE. The one on the right is from a Tibetian, the one on the right from an A&M.

    Please explain broody....

I have a large sand box in with my birds and one strange A&M. I went out last night and she had pulled all the eggs under her ( what would fit ) and she was pecking at everything around her. She made what I could best describe as chicken noises, and I had to move her to get the eggs... Is this...

One of my hens died....any suggestions?

It started with her just standing in one spot not moving around at all. I reached in and picked her up and still no reaction. I moved her to the solitary cage and set her up for what I thought would be an extended stay. WRONG! About 10 minutes later she would turn her head slowly all the way to...

    giant mealworms bad for quail?

I have been doing a lot of reading on different sites and it seems that "giant " mealworms are treated with a growth hormone to keep them from puapating.... If that is true, wouldn't they be a bad choice to give quail?? You are what you eat.

New sexing idea.... Give me your thoughts please

I like to give my A&Ms meal worms about once a week and have noticed a behavior that is comical. The roos will not eat the worms, they pick them up and start to giggle until one of the hens comes and takes it out of their beak. I thought I had one roo and five hens until I started to notice a...

    Bad eggs need help....

I have gotten three eggs in the last two days, all three have been white with three eights inch dents on one side with spider-web looking cracks all around it. The eggs actually look old but they are not in there more than a couple hours at a time. Quick info on the birds: Texas A&M, moved to...

    Best quail sounds

Here we go again.... I have a couple Texas A&M and laugh myself silly everytime they get to crowing. It sounds like a distant turkey jacked up on caffeine. In everyones opinion, do all quail crow the same? I have heard Bobs and I know they are different, but what about all the different...

    Ground vs. Elevated

I am sure it is out there somewhere, yet my feeble self cannot find it. In everyones opinion, what is better, ground or on wire? I was about to build a ground pen but noticed a majority of people on here have their quail off the ground. Thanks for any help. Steve

    First egg....

I know this doesn't really rank up there with hatching out your first chick, but I got my first egg from the Texas A&Ms a friend gave me. My wife still thinks I got a bit too excited about it. Just felt like sharing with people who might get excited too.

help a new quail lover please....

Hi, my name is Steve and new to this quail thing. I have some questions and figured I would come to the experts. A friend gave me 6 Texas A&M quail the other day, and that is where the questions start. She said that they had already been laying. I have them in a 2'x3' elevated cage with a 1'x2'...
