    Muscovy duckling colors?

Post photos! I want to see the cuteness! feathersite has a load of muscovy photos; I don't know if it will help, but here's the link: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Ducks/Musc/BRKScobies.html

what is the difference between domestic and wild mallards??

Genetically, nothing really significant. All of our domestic breeds, except for the muscovies, come from mallard stock originally. In fact, there are some breeders who have wild-type mallards that they maintain in captivity. I believe you have to show documentation that you didn't just grab...

    Baby mandarin went neurological????!!

The deaths were about 1 day apart, I'd say. Most of the ducklings at my friend's place died first, so yeah, hmmmm. As for the harnessing, I respect your opinions but also feel that raising a single duck requires such training for the best integration. As it would have also been an education...

    Baby mandarin went neurological????!!

I know that I'm very sanitary around my birds, especially young ones, but the fact remains that disease can happen. It was just weird to me that the other ducklings died too, despite everything. Haha, yes, a diaper for a mandarin. If I'm taking the time to raise a single duck, I want to make...

    Baby mandarin went neurological????!!

Quote: Thanks for the advice. If I have to, I'll try raising a group, but it makes diaper training much more difficult, hehe. Anyway, I'll keep on trying!!! Thanks again

    Baby mandarin went neurological????!!

It was less than a week, I think 4 days old. He was eating fine, running after whatever I put down for it, namely unmedicated chick starter and leafy greens. Fresh water was supplied. The duckling started "head tracking", where his head would start in the normal position and would be pulled...

    Baby mandarin went neurological????!!

I've been really sad about this, and therefore haven't been online to ask until now. Last week, my mandarin hatchling showed signs of neurological problems and died shortly thereafter. I know there's nothing I could have done, he was acting perfectly normal just before and within 2 hours...

    New Mandarin Duckling, any tips?

Thanks very much! I have found so far that mandarin hatchlings are much more vivacious than their domestic counterparts when 1 day old. I have never seen a duckling so "bouncy" and able to run like it does at 1 day. It also has come to recognize our hands as "safe" and will jump into our...

    New Mandarin Duckling, any tips?

Hello all! To preface, I'm not a first-time duck owner, I have a 6 yr old mallard hybrid who is very healthy and happy, raised and kept on a proper diet and housed with care. I also specialized in waterfowl while I was a wildlife rehabber. My friend let me take home one of her newly hatched...

    Mandarin Duck advice

yeah, when they try to get away while pinioned, they do a mid-air somersault. it's a little pathetic, to be sure. Like others said, you will not be able to tame all of them. They are really flighty and nervous just by nature. If you want them to imprint on you, then you will have to raise them...

    Mandarin Duck advice

Yeah, if you're clipping then your mandarins should be well adjusted toward people or else you'll have a difficult time of it (sneaky lil buggars haha). If you pinion right as a baby it's not so bad. Remember that it's only temporary pain so that there can be long term benefits, i.e. no...

Thank you for the move, moderator. I'm sorry about the "bump". How can I get my post read and responded to then? Should I just post a new thread in a couple of days if nobody answers? Thanks for the advice

    Mandarin Duck advice

I chased one down 2 neighborhood blocks a couple of years ago because it wasn't pinioned, hehe. Just remember to take action to make them flightless somehow (whether by pinioning or regular clipping) because they will fly away Good luck!

    need help! Duck suddenly lame???

I would put him on "box rest" for a day or two, and see if that helps. He might have pulled something and will need time to recover. Many times when my duck would come up lame (he has a bad leg from a raccoon attack 6.5 years ago, and he's almost 7 years now and still going strong), cage rest...
