So, a little bit of an update on the hen I thought was laying different colored eggs...urns out my Easter Egger, Pinky, lays brown eggs, not the blues I was hoping for. I won't hold it against her, after watching all she went through to show me her handiwork! My little black Frizzle, Sizzle...
Is it possible that my EE is laying different colored eggs? I have had green ones before, but found a brown one in the nest today, and the other pullets are definitely not of laying age...(unless, like my children, they are early bloomers!)
This is the door, an old window screen that slides in a wooden track. I hit my head coming out of the run at least once a day.
I can pull the tractor right up to the coop...or maybe trust one day that I can open the door and they will file back into the coop.
I chose 2 inch bottom and the rest...
I need a pat on the back and a "job well done", please!
I finally got my chicken tractor usable...although now I see:
1. How much easier it could've been
2. How much easier it could've been
3. How much cheaper it could've been!
I will post photos when it has another set of wheels on it...
So, my EE cockerel was supposed to have a new home yesterday, but the guy was a no-show....all things happen for a reason, right? So, everyone keeps telling me I should have at least one roo...I have 8 pullets/hens...and live just outside the city. I am not sure if his crowing (he just began...
OK. So, here I am again, trying to introduce some 8 week old pullets to my 16 week old mixed flock and one 10 week old bantam. One is docile and doesn't care. All others (pullets) just chase the new ones around and peck at the back of the new girls' necks.
Is this just a rite of passage...
So, for the months I have been on the forum and been asking about breeds and gender, sweet Chocolate had been sexed an easter egger pullet...she sure is looking a little differently now! Is she still my sweet baby girl? She is now 18 weeks plus or minus...and her tail feathers are turning...
but don't know what breed she is...named her Queenie, as she is certainly the Queen of the flock already. Liking her new digs, she gives a lovely egg-a-day!
The Barred rock is named ZsaZsa...her egg-a-day is pinkish, and the Buff Orp is named Buffy...
They were a gift from a friend whose home...
So, I put golf balls in the nesting box and VOILA!, they were not in the same place this morning.
So, the question is: Were the chickens up all night playing golf? Or, is it possible that someone is practicing for when it is time for her to lay?
Need help-have a serious case of cross beak and don't know what to do about it! I prepare mush that she will eat, she scoops chick starter and water, is not growing nearly as fast as her nest mates are...
I have a cross beak easter egger and the other chickens are constantly trying to remove the odd thing they see on her beak-that being her lower beak...it is so hilarious when she tries to peck back at them. She puts up with it for a while, as it cleans stuff off her beak that she cannot get...
So, my easter eggers are now running on to about 18 weeks old and I have opened the nesting box for business. Will they know to go up the ladder when they are ready to start laying, or do I need to show it to them and put a couple of fake eggs in there? Also, I have one long box with no...

My flock is around 18 weeks old. I have a ladder that goes up into the nesting box, but have the box blocked off at this time. Do I need to prepare the nesting box with straw and shavings? If so, how much and , when should I open the hotel for business? Will my pullets begin showing some...
I bought a straight run of chicks six weeks ago. All are healthy, now 16 weeks old.. A week ago, I brought in a healthy 8 week old pullet. I want to give all (3) cockerels to a friend who has 200 free rangers in his yard (big yard), but he is afraid that my birds might contaminate his. Is...
My 15 week old Easter Egger is such a runt, growing much slower than the others...I provide a deep-well feeder and he/she eats and drinks well, but cannot forage. Any suggestions for fattening him.her up? Also, any gender idea?
So, I know in Jamaica, at the supermarket and in small shops, eggs are never refrigerated. They sell them in the store one by one. How long are they fresh for (unrefrigerated)?
