    Is my hen sick?

    My Welsummer hen seems to have a cold.. She started to sound like a goose and when I pick her up and listen to her breathing it sounds as if she is congested ...She looks fine acts fine eats and drinks...no discharges ...eyes look fine to...could she have a cold?     Please HELP, loosing feathers

    Our flock will be 9 weeks tomorrow and we think this one may not be one of the girls. This one developed much too quickly and is leaner. The tail feathers are pointing upward as well. Is she really a he?

    The coop finally got here and we put the 18 girls in the coop today..All seemed ok but tonight we checked on them and the 2 silver wyandottes had the feathers in the same spot on their backsjust above the tails pecked away and the spots were raw with some blood.. the spots are about the size of...

    coop bedding .. Pellets?

    Hi ..I hear of peaple talking about pellet bedding...What is pellet bedding?and can it be used in the coop for grown chickens?Where could I get this and is it compostable for the garden?Seams like it would be alot cleaner than straw or shavings.Thanks.

    Can I use sand?

    This might sound crazy but we would like to use very fine dried sand that you can buy in bags at the Home depot on the floor of our coop...The coop has a wooden floor with glassboard floor covering the wood... It seems to me that it would be very easy to sift out the poo with a kitty litter...

    How can I tell a Roo

    Hi...We were supposed to have gotten 18 female chicks from the hatchery and most have a little bump on their leg above where the thumb comes out....Could we have gotten so many Roo's or is this normal for female chicks...They are going on 4 weeks old. Thanks for your help.

    fluid sack is somthing wrong?

    There is a bulge under the neck of one of my Welsummers...Its like a sack of fluid....Is this a syst or is this the gizzard ?None of my other chicks have this...They are 3 weeks old but the welsummers are bigger than the rest...They are on chick starter ,grower and she eats and drinks and acts...

    Sand or shavings on coop floor

    I never herd of sand before on the coop floors until now....Do you peeps mean that instead of shavings or straw?I could see how sand would be so much easier to keep clean..How does sand work in colder climates?If so..I would put straw in the nesting boxes and sand on the floor....Can anyone post...

    Chicks want to fly the Coop

    My 18 chicks who are almost three weeks old are ready to fly out of their brooder, they either run and jump or they hop off of their perch . I thought chicks couldn't fly. Had to put chicken wire on the top of the brooder to keep them in. The on little devil hops onto the top of the feeder...

    New from Vernon New Jersey

    18 New chicks: 2 Barred Rocks, 1 Buff Orpington, 3 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Jersey Giant, 2 Welsummers, 3 Ameriucanas, 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte, 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte, came from Meyer Hatchery a little over a week ago and are doing fine. This is our first flock and boy are they drama queens.
