    Older chicken with swollen abdomen

Thanks. Yes, this looks like possibly what's going on. Going to keep an eye on her for the next few days and see if she perks up. Not sure I' m up to draining her abdomen and we don't have a poultry vet in the area ( not that I would be able to afford it if I did).

    Older chicken with swollen abdomen

I have a 6 year old chicken that has a swollen abdomen. This just came up in the last week or so so I know that she's not just fat. She hasn't laid in about a year so I don't think she's eggbound. She's not moving around much and when she does she gets tired easily - breathing with her mouth...

Help with bantam egg with runny brownish yellow liquid

Yesterday my 1yr. old bantam was acting like she didn't feel good. She seemed to be having trouble breathing, tail down, all fluffed up and wouldn't sit down. I isolated her and brought her inside. She continued to act as if she was having trouble breathing. Every once in a while she'd perk...

Does any one use ivermectin in chickens ?

This has been a really informative thread. We have a real mite problem on a couple of bantams that we've been dealing with for several months now. I've tried just about everything I can think of and am at the end of my rope! Ivermectin seems to be our last resort. They are small bantams...

Scaly Leg Mites - Need Best / Easiest / Quickest Solution - Scaley

I'd like to add to this thread and see if anyone has any other ideas. I am just about at my wits end. We've had a mite infestation with our little bantams for about 3 months now! I've tried just about everything. First off we bathed them in I think it was pyrethin and then dusted them with...

Chicken suddenly laying in the run instead of in the nesting box

We have 4 hens. All have been laying since last fall and usually they all lay in the 2 nesting boxes that we have for them. Suddenly, over the last week or so, we have 1 that has been laying outside in the run under the coop. It's making me nuts 'cuz it's hard to get to. I'm pretty sure...

Newly acquired pullets with blood in feces.

Last Saturday we purchased a couple of OEGB pullets at a poultry show. They seem fine- eating, drinking, walking around, etc. Yesterday we noticed that some of the stools have blood in them. I'm thinking it's probably just from the stress but I'm not sure. I went to the page with the...

New birds integration...UPDATE: DAY 4...free range!!!

Looking forward to seeing how this goes for you. We are in the process of trying to incorporate 3 new pullets into our 4-H coop. They were put in at night just like you did instead of being in a cage for a week. There has been some pecking the past 2 days and the new ones do a lot of hiding...

Big question, why did all of you new chicken owners get chickens?

Our daughter got involved with the poultry project in the local 4-H club. They keep the hens at a coop at a local farm park. Seemed like a great deal - she could take care of chickens without actually having to have one. Within 3 weeks of being in the project a hen became available for her to...

What sorts of noises do your chickens make?

I joke and say our 9 wk. old pullets are part duck. If they are upset, like when you pick them up when they don't want to be picked up, they squawk with almost a ducklike sound! ______________________________________________________________________________________ Married to a wonderful...

I have 4 pullets (hopefully), 9wks. old and 3 of them are confusing me. My daughter wants to enter them in the fair and I need to know what they are. Any help would be appreciated! This is Betty. She's supposed to be a RIR. But I've been told she's not dark enough. This is Margie...
