Just ordered 50 Sil Go Links!

Well my plan was to only get 25 cockrels and have them shipped at the begginning of September. So I just got off the phone with central hatchery and it turns out they have a minimum of 50 chicks and their last hatch is next week!!! Me being very impulsive went ahead and ordered 50 chickens that...

CX are pretty tough, what am I doing wrong???

What temp were you roasting yours at? I know sometimes roasting chicken too high of a temp, or too long will cause toughness. When I roast mine I do a beer can chicken in the oven. I cook at 350 with an aluminum tent just so it cover the top of the breast for an hour. Then I bump up the heat to...

two quick questions: outside temps and feed

The reason you feed 12 on 12 off, is because CX's (if thats what you are raisings) are bred to grow FAST! If you constantly feed them they will constantly eat . Therefore their bodies will grow faster than their bones and organs and you get heart failure and their legs will usaully give out. I...

    When to butcher Cornish-X meaties????

I used a cabela's meat scale and a 5 gallon bucket which weighed 2 pounds. I gently put the chicken in the bucket at 7 weeks old, weighed around 8- 8.5 lbs. Chickens dressed weight came out at 4 and 4.5 lbs Kristen

two quick questions: outside temps and feed

If you're rainsing CX's. I raised my first bactch of 50 this spring, they are already in the freezer. At 3 weeks I never let the temp get under 70 degrees. I was worried about them getting cold and smothering eachother. I am a beginner so I took all precautions because I wanted to keep my...

    Meatie Chicks are here! *pics*

Can you keep me posted on your adventure? I just got finished with my CX's and I was looking into buying some red broilers next spring to try something different (don't get me wrong, I love CX's, doing another batch this fall) I'm curious to see if they dress out differently from CX's. ps. the...

    Chickens all Processed (Pic)

Thank you all!!!!! They went from the chopping block, into the scalder, plucked, put into ice water, hung up to dry and then singed, back into ice water to rub of the singed hairlike feathers, feet cut off, gutted, rinsed out really good and then into the freezer bag. Wow that sounds lilke a...

    Homeade Chinken Scalder/ "Buzzard Boiler"

Well I finally got to use my scalder. We( Fiancee, Dad, and I) butcherd 25 chickens today and the scalder worked just as planned. It took about 45 minutes to heat up and all went smoothly! Just got 18 left to do next week. Oh! and dad got 10 chickens.

    Homeade Chinken Scalder/ "Buzzard Boiler"

We haven't used it on chickens yet, but we did a test run and it holds its heat well and no leaks. My dad picked up a used natural gas heater and put a propane orphase on, thats all I really know (my dad is the brains behind this unit). I got the idea from this thread (...

    First time outside [PICS]

I'm not sure what size of building im going to put in yet. I haven't decided if i'm going to do 50 chickens or 150 next year. A lot of neighboors and friends are wanting to buy chickens from me right now but I just don't have enough for that between me and my fiance, we go through a lot of...

    First time outside [PICS]

Our neighboor said they used it only as a brooder house and then they moved their chickens to a large coop. I don't think its ever housed hens. After we butcher these chickens we are going to insulate it, put in nesting boxes and make it into a hen house(we are getting a variety of 10 pullets in...

    First time outside [PICS]

The fencing is pretty easy to move, definatly managable by yourself but a lot faster with 2 people. This is my first year raising chickens and I started with CX's and I have learned if their is feed around they aren't going anywhere. It will wave back and forth in the wind since you can't make...

    First time outside [PICS]

Thanks Kelsey! I gave my neighbor 100 bucks for it. It was just going to rot away in the pasture anyway. Here is a picture of it before we started to work on it.

    Cornish X problem

I had one that was doing that last week, he was 4 weeks and one of the smaller ones. He would sit funny and his legs would stick out to the side a little. I finally culled him because he wasn't able to get up anymore and I felt really bad for him. He did make a tasty dinner
