Can some one explain what the pecking order is all about? I have a group of mixed ages that do well together except at night. They fight over a position on the roost. The roost is plenty big. A few of them peck and squawk over the same place. I don't get it.
I have a group of chickens 3 1 yr olds and 4 teen agers and 9 8 week olds that are roosting in the nesting boxes any tricks to keep them out? Now I have dirty nesting boxes.
Does it hurt when they Lay eggs? Every once in a while I hear one of my girls screaming. When I go running to the coop I find one of them in the nesting box.

I hear a tapping noise coming from 1 of my chicks, when I make him drink water the noise stops and then starts up again. They are 4 days old and seem ok I have to clean their butts every now and then. Is that normal? First timer!
