Quote: What kind of symptoms did you have with your sick chicks when you used the pine shavings? I was thinking the same think because when I cleaned out my coops and put the shaving in the next day they did not looking right. In a couple of days they were back to normal so I was thinking it...

You have to be careful with the dust output from the extra fine pine shavings. It can kill the juvies and make the biggies sick. Before I knew you were supposed to tell the folks at TSC what type of shavings you want, I bought some not knowing just how fine they were. Put them in my coop and the...

    ~~Crazy 24hr Auction~~

I have hatched Marans eggs from Sebrightmom... 100% hatch under my Cochin bantam. And the two hens I kept lay very pretty dark eggs. Sadly I lost one of my hens this Summer to depression(is my guess) she was broody from May through the end of July and never got to raise chicks as another biggie...

October egg swap- Shipping deadline is Tuesday!!!

Quote: This is exactly why I'm waiting at least til February... I would have to house chicks in my garage for at least two months here... So unless I have a broody around swap time through the Winter, I'm finished... Incubator is shut down.

    So I have these chickens....and....

The first one could be any mix, not necessarily an EE because of it having greenish legs. Any mix with yellow legs to grey/slate legs can result in green legs. They all look to be a beautiful mix.

White chick from French Black Copper Marans

You'll know by 2 wks if it's a male or female. Wheaten males start to feather in with black down the back females don't have as much black on them.

    My Ameraucana Hen/Roo??

Special or private stock pure breeds usually start laying later than the hatchery breeds. Private stock are bred primarily for quality and actually start laying around when they should, where hatchery are bred for quantity and bred to start earlier and lay more eggs.

    Post Pics of your EE's

This lady up front is Pigpen, my brown EE hen. She loves scratching in the mud after a good rain! This lady was Liberty... Named her so because she was red, white, and blue. She died on the nest back in March while the daughter and I were out of the country on vacation. Was one of my...

What color eggs would these EE's lay

You really won't know til they start laying... It is said that a pea comb will lay blue/bluegreen and straight comb other colors. But in reality an EE can lay any color on the egg rainbow. Just have to wait til they start to lay.

    Bantam pullet. breed?

Salmon Faverolles are such sweet laid back birds. My pen is on a small slant and I use to get a laugh out of my Salmon Faverolles roo as he would start his dust bath at a spot and end up about 5 feet down. Walk up to his starting point and do it again. Like he enjoyed the ride. He couldn't just...

Any guess as to breed or sex?

Thefirst three pics is a boy the last pics is a girl. In Cuckoo and Barred it is usually easy to tell because the girls have more black and less white(double bar gene or something like that) and the males Have more white spacing and less black(lacks this double bar gene). With the white legs my...

What colour type is this silkie?

Probably a partridge in color. A splash (usually) doesn't start getting splash looking til it feathers come in. They nay have a spot or two as a chick but not this much variation.

    My Ameraucana Hen/Roo??

Looks like a pullet...Its hard sometimes with EEs... I had one who's comb was red at a young age. Thought she was a roo (because she had some pointed feathers instead of rounded) til she started to lay eggs.

Luckyinky: I love your Polish! Very pretty! Shelley: Cris still calls them his feather chickens? How sweet! He'll love this white one, she is so tame she just squats as soon as you touch her and will stay that way as long as you're petting her. Silly girl!!
