    Black Australorp Buff Orpington Cross

Thanks for letting me know. That information gives me something to look for when I start trying to breed the crosses.

    Black Australorp Buff Orpington Cross

Quote: How soon were you able to sex them by color ? I would be interested in knowing the answer to that question as well. That is a pretty bird. Can you relate how good they were on laying eggs?

    Black Australorp Buff Orpington Cross

I have been thinking about something and haven't seemed to be able to find a definitive answer. If I decided to cross a Black Australorp rooster and a Buff Orpington hen, would the chicks be able to be sexed shortly after birth, due to their coloring?

What was once a hen, may be a rooster

Quote: It's quite strange, as these roosters are getting their tail feathers, but their combs are still small. It's beginning to look like I may have to find some more Black Australorp pullets to round out my flock, after I weed out all of the roosters.

What was once a hen, may be a rooster

Quote: Yeah, 9-10 hours would be quite a drive for one chicken, rooster or hen. Wish you were closer.

What was once a hen, may be a rooster

Quote: Well, I guess you could drive on up to eastern Oklahoma and take one of these Black Australorp roosters back home with you.

What was once a hen, may be a rooster

I wish I could find room to disagree with you folks, but I am afraid I can't. Well, I now have to find new homes for at least three more roosters. This is the pits. Hey, TroutsChicks. Where do you live?

What was once a hen, may be a rooster

Well, this may just go to show how much I really don't know about this stuff. I purchased three Buff Orpington pullets (I thought) from okiehen and I was fairly well decided that all three were indeed pullets. However, I am beginning to have a great deal of suspicion that all may not be as it...

***OKIES in the BYC III ***

So far, I have been lucky/blessed etc. I am unable to turn my birds out into the yard just yet, but the temp inside the coop was only about 92° this evening. That was when it as about 100° outside, with a heat index of 108°. They are panting, but that is to be expected, I think. I gave them a...

What gender are our BOs and RIRs

Are all of the BOs the same age? If so, there is a lot of difference between the big one in the middle of the first picture and the rest of them. I would have to say it is a rooster.

    Ameraucana Roosters - Eastern Oklahoma

I have around 2 young Ameraucana roosters for sale and they are not hatchery stock. They are approximately 8 weeks old and the picture really doesn't do them justice. One of them is white, which you can see in the picture, and the other is brown. I am in eastern Oklahoma, near Fort Smith, AR...

Rhode Island Red rooster - Eastern Oklahoma

I have around one young Rhode Island Red rooster for sale. He is approximately 8 weeks old. I am in eastern Oklahoma, near Fort Smith, AR. With the current heat wave, I wouldn't feel good about shipping the bird, so they should be considered pick up only, or I could meet someone at a reasonable...

Black Australorp roosters for sale - Eastern Oklahoma

I have around 7 young Black Australorp roosters for sale. They are approximately 9 weeks old and the picture really doesn't do them justice. I am in eastern Oklahoma, near Fort Smith, AR. With the current heat wave, I wouldn't feel good about shipping the birds, so they should be considered pick...

Is it ok to spank our roo?

Well, I have had quite a few laughs reading through this thread. While I don't advocate cruelty to animals, they sometimes have to be shown who is boss. I probably will not be keeping a rooster because we live in a residential neighborhood, but if I do, he had best mind his manners. He will not...

Care to take a gander and a guess? Black Australorps

Quote: Thanks. Yeah, I am figuring that out. I was in the coop this morning, showing the birds off to my father-in-law, and the white bird was bowed up at another bird, feathers all fluffed out, etc. He looked like he was spoiling for a fight and is looking more and more like a rooster every day.

My 7 week old Barred Rocks want to know...

Quote: As has already been said, they look just like my three BR pullets. Small and pale combs and much darker feather coloring.

    Australorp gender help, please

I will say pullet also. I base that by how my BAs look at 9 weeks. The ones that are probably roosters have very large and red combs.
