    Roosters?

The one in the back is a much older hen, she's a Bovan Black. These little ones went in with 4 of the older hens to grow out as I lost most of that pen to a dog attack so there was space in there for these guys to grow out! Thank you so much for the help!

    Roosters?

I would guess they would be about 9-10 weeks at this point, but not 100 percent certain.

    Roosters?

Hey there! I have some "EE" chickens growing out and starting to see some rooster traits in some of them. I'd love it if you guys could confirm whether my suspicions are correct on these three birds!

At what age can you tell sex in BA, RIR and BR?

Sorry guys, BR meant Buff Rock.. (which is what they were sold to me as, not sure if they're actually Orpingtons or not). And thanks for all the tips, I'll check out their legs when I get a chance later today... also.. if the feather sexing is accurate I may have a lot of roos... I did check...

How different are turkeys in relation to chickens?

Thank you for your reply, I've been told that they cannot be house in the same area as chickens as they will get sick, so they would need to be on the other side of the property here, which might be annoying.. I may just stick to chickens for now. Thanks for the info though!

    # of weeks until able to process?

Perfect, thanks for the info guys! I'm not sure if it will be worth it to keep them around for 4-5 months, maybe should just try to sell them on or give them away when I know for sure they're cockerils. Thanks for the info though!

At what age can you tell sex in BA, RIR and BR?

Hi! I am looking for some help sexing my chicks.. they are currently 2 weeks and I'd love to know at what age you experts are able to tell the difference. (Black Australorp, Buff Roc, Rhode Island Red). I have a feeling about some of them in the way they behave, some are asserting dominance...

    # of weeks until able to process?

Hi there, I recently purchased 11 straight run chicks, and I am planning on growing out the males until they are ready to process. The breeds I have are RIR, Black Australorp, and Buff Rock. My question that I can't seem to find on google or here is.. how many weeks is it recommended to let...

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Brand new to the brooding chicks world, but this is what I slapped together for my 11 chicks we picked up today. It's just a storage tub container (from Walmart) for the bottom, and then my (creative) hubby used the frame from under an old table we had that we were scrapping that happened to...

How different are turkeys in relation to chickens?

Hi all, I am looking for some information on turkeys.. hubby recently asked me if we should get a few turkey chicks to raise up and eat.. but I have zero experience with these birds. What do they need that is different than chickens? How much space, how much feed, how much inside vs outside...

Raising Chicks for the first time...

Hi all, I have just today placed an order for some chicks which will be ready on April 1st. I have never raised day olds before, I did keep some layers a few years ago but bought them as mature birds, and so have no experience with raising chicks in a brooder. I went out and bought the...

    Is it possible...

Well, I just thought I should update this thread since I just discovered something shocking in my hen house. HAH! I thought she was done at two, and for over a week I have gotten not ONE egg from my other hens. I suspected that they were just thrown off by the new chicks in the shed, and that...

    Organic chick starter versus medicated?

You should ALWAYS keep younger and older birds separated until they are close in size. The older birds could peck and injure/kill the younger ones. I don't agree at all with this statement. Yes, sometimes you could lose chicks to older birds, but you should know your flock's temperment. Keep...

New Chicken Keeper and a Broody!!

Wow, that information states that Pheonix's are poor egg layers... normally mine produce one a day, not one a week!! I guess my birds were never told that, egg production is back to normal now, they weren't stashing I'm not sure why they stopped for a while, but I'm getting my eggs now so I'm...

Any other Pheonix fans out there?

He does look a bit small doesn't he? But he's very pretty, can't wait to see him fill out more!
