I am pretty new to geese. I have one female now (an African), she just started laying about a month ago. She was never very personable, didn't really like to be touched. Now some days when I see her she squats in front of me and puts her wings up (but still folded against her body), I think...
I got my first egg today!! I am so excited! These are my first chickens that I've ever had they are 20 weeks. The egg is so perfect, small brown and hardly any blemishes! I have been waiting for the past 2 weeks for this! I hope i will find another one or two tomorrow!
Is there anything I can do to keep my ducks from spilling so much food everywhere? When they eat they seem to dump half of the food from their mouth to the ground. I don't like having so much wasted food. They were eating from a chicken feeder, then I tried feeding them from a shallow bucket to...
I think my Pekin is mute. I have three Rouens that you can hear from two houses away, but the pekin just opens his mouth and whispers even when he is excited! Its strange.
I know winter is far away and no one wants to think about it, but what do you do for shelter for geese in the winter? Right now when they need shelter the ducks and geese are under the chicken coop that is probably 2 feet off the ground with no sides. I want to build them a shelter for winter...
I have 2 Rouens (we think) they look very similar, I think they are probably girls, but I really want a boy so just figured I'd ask your opinions...Thanks a bunch
One of them has slightly less pattern in the back wings and the chest is duller. Sorry you can't really see it in the pictures...
Any guess on breeds? They came in a homesteaders package from McMurray Hatchery. They are 5 weeks old with most of their feathers.
The gray/brown one is quite fiesty, she always sticks her neck out and yells at you when you go in the fence. The white one is the sweetest thing ever, he lets...
I started with 2 a month ago (we think they are rouens) and we just took in 2 new ones that the previous owner didn't want:rant. Make sure you do your homework before you get ducklings!

Which one do you think is the male? The one with his neck stretched out? I have one that always does that and one that just doesn't care. I don't know sex or breed of mine.
How do I get my chickens back in their coop easily? I just started letting my 3 week old chicks out when it is nice out, but they are only out when I have time to watch them. When I have to get them back in the coop they all run around and don't let me catch them...suggestions???
One of my goslings loves swimming under water too! It is so funny! The other one could care less about water and seems to panic when his feet don't touch bottom...I guess all geese are different
I'm about ready to take the light out of the coop. I've got 3 week old and 2 week old chicks, but its been really hot here lately. I just turn it on at night in case they are cold.
I got a group of 10 chicks, 2 ducks, 2 turkeys, 2 geese. Then a week later got 15 more chicks. The 15 smaller chicks are separated, but I am wondering when to combine them? 4 of the smaller chicks got into the bigger birds section (they are just separated by about a foot tall piece of wood with...
I have two, 2 week old (probably) Rouen ducks. They seem to lay down to do everything (eat and drink mostly)! Do all of them do this or did I just get two really lazy ducklings?
I got my batch of mixed breeds from Mcmurray a week and a half ago! They are all doing great and I can't believe how fast they grow! I'm a first timer but I think i might turn into a crazy chicken lady! I love them!
