I have one that does it pretty often. Usually it's when she sees a cat that she hates, she displays then chases it away. She did it more when she had chicks. At those times she wasn't happy, or excited, more like angry and protective
Just sayin': I've also had peacocks for years, and honestly I've never had any of them fly strait up at night, and I go in their pen almost every night. I suppose it just depends on the bird.

Really? We have replaced eggs with chicks under chickens and ducks just fine, I didn't think peafowl would be that much less accepting if it's done at night. I assume you're speaking from experience and not supposition?
edit: I ask out of curiosity, because this is something I would...
I've got a peacock that sleeps in a huge walnut tree every night, on the same exact branch. He sleeps on a dead branch, but most of the tree is alive, so there are a lot of leaves and branches to cover him. If the weather is really bad he goes inside our barn, and sleeps in the rafters.

I had a peahen hatch some chicks of her own, and long story short they are dead . Could she still lay another clutch and hatch them? Is it to late in the breeding season? The male is almost done molting for this year, just a few more feathers to go. I know they will sometimes lay a third clutch...
I leave them be until they are dry, then you'll be able to see if they really a crooned. Once I know for sure if its toes are crooked I put on the shoes.
I do the pipe cleaner trick. It's the best thing I've found.

I was think how good of a club president you would be for one when I was writing that Toni Marie. If you wanted to do one, I'd sure join. I'm sure may others would too.
I have had many many folks ask me where to find the longtailed club at. Always stinks to tell them there isnt...
Keep the humidity at 60% for the first 26 days, then raise it to around 80% for the last couple of days. I have a automatic turner in my incubator, but it needs to be turned more than the turner does. I also turn them 180 degrees in the morning and night. On the 26th days I stop turning them...
I had a coop once, with a run, but then it was destroyed in a storm. They chose to sleep in the barn, so now they get up whenever they want and go to sleep whenever they want. They have no sort of fence and just go all over the place. Honestly I like having them free range better. Its so awesome...
I don't like EE's. I see them every where in here!! I have a EE rooster and he is always messing with my peahens and hens, while they are with chicks!!!!
I've got a couple white ones and a ring neck. We rescued them when they were young. Can you sex doves? I have no idea what gender they are. any trade secrets?
My turkeys were raised here from the start. They are completely free range, although they choose to sleep in the barn at night. Mine barely wonder anywhere. The toms seem to wonder less than the hens.
My toms have never been mean. They are supper friendly.
When I had a coop I had turkeys, peas, ducks, and chickens together. I never had a problem. All of those birds are free range now, and still no problems. But like others it just depends on your flock I guess, and personal preference of course.
