I've heard of car batteries being used to run incubators, but that seems like it might be a bit much.
Basically, I've been given permission to incubate eggs over the weekdays in my dorm room (I am a high-school student, and a five-day boarder at my school) since my parents won't watch them. I...
I'm looking for a roo to show for either 4H or any other poultry shows that may come to town, and I figured that most people may not be reliable (I'm a newbie, so I'm not particularly savvy with knowing what makes a rooster "Show quality") and I don't think they'd tell me if he wasn't. So I was...
I want a purebred, show-quality roo with a docile disposition that I can show in the fair next year.
I live in Cle Elum Washington and would prefer a local pick-up over shipping.
I would prefer a standard breed over a bantam and I am partial to Faverolles, Brahma and Marans. Any breed, however...
I have an "Americauna" rooster named Dodger who is a color that I have not seen before and as far as I know it's not recognized by the ABC.
He has a beautiful deep scarlet rose comb, ear muffs and a beard, and gray clean legs. He's a big boy and he has a nice arch to his neck (He's six months...
Our neighbor had two black Labradors that constantly went onto our property and harassed the chickens by running them to death back and forth through the fence. Since at first I was able to scare them away easily and they hadn't caused any real damage other than a few very bothered hens, I was...
I have these white eggs with what almost appear to be stains of dirt (but they don't come off, and they're on every egg, so I think it's safe to assume they're the color.)
Is this a problem?
It's the weirdest thing! We introduced our new bantam hen to our four week old babies today and get this, she adopted them! They all seem to huddle under her and she watches over them like a very protective mommy. Four weeks! I had a hard time believing it myself; but they've all accepted her as...
I live near Cle Elum, WA- and I'm looking for one or two laying hens (within the age of 1-2 years old and neither older or younger than that.)
If you are within driving distance (200- miles) please post here if you have a friendly, non-aggressive one for sale. A nice beginner chicken personality...
So last night, my mother had a total lapse of judgement and decided to put all of our eleven three-week-old chicks in the coop to get them out of the house; considering brooding them inside was an absolute nightmare.
So she sticks them out there the whole night; it's their first time in the coop...
I'm not sure if this is in the right forum section... but meh. It's 5AM, I haven't slept all night from my excitement and I'm sort of high on life. So I hope whatever I might type here is legible.
So, I have about eleven chicks that I'm raising currently in a brooder. They're my first, at about...
I have the sweetest little baby chick.
So far she is my favorite, I am trying to learn not to get too attached but it is failing, she's just so irresistable (she, I hope).
She is a week 1/2 old Delaware with a black dot on her forehead and lots of gray on her wings. She might be a mixed...
I'm looking for some 14wk+ old purebred golden sebright pullets that could possibly be used for showing.
I'm not totally sure I'd be buying just yet, but I'd like to know if there are some available in my area (Yakima, WA)
I could only pay up to 50$ and only if it is a very, very flashy bird.
Edit: I may be stupid since this is probably something everyone does; but wow! The water is still PRISTINE! I used to have to change it literally every ten minutes. Also, I know it's inevitable. It's going to happen anyway and they're going to pollute their water one way or another, but it...
As far as I know, no one in my family is really adept at building anything, and the chicks are growing up too fast for their own good! I live in Cle Elum, Eastern Washington, and I'm looking for someone who could possibly come out and build us a tractor coop that could house at least 12-13...
Hello! I'm a newbie to both chickens and this forum, and I just have to say; so far I am LOVING it.
Everyone is so nice here!
All my week-old chicks:
I'd love to see pictures of everyone else's chickens!
It's super adorable! The chicks think its a bug so they go running after it and tucker themselves out trying to chase it. It also helps when it's nighttime and they won't settle down; helps get some energy out of their systems.
Such a fun toy! Has anyone else tried this with their chicks?
At what age can I take my babies outside? They're five days old right now. I just want to take em out for a quick supervised visit; it's sunny right now. Are they too young? I wouldn't be leaving them out there/alone.
