My little red hen continues to lay "lashes" instead of eggs. She looks healthy, eats, drinks, and daily goes into the nest box to lay an egg - but never does. Instead, she lays a gross tumor thingy about every month. Wish I knew why.

I guess I have to wait and see what happens. Today she stayed in the nest for a while then did the egg laying song, but no egg. She's eating, drinking, and making merry so far. I hope it's not cancer. And yes- glad it's still not inside her.

I did some research and I'm convinced it was a "Lash". Could be from hormonal imbalance, and/ or reproductive lining. I'm not sure which hen laid it but they are all just over a year old. One hen got sick and stopped laying months ago, maybe it was her.

It is a month old, but was kept in the fridge and didn't smell when it was opened. I thought eggs lasted at least a month when kept cold.

I also grow flats of wheat grass for the chickens, but I just bungee cord it to the outside of the run (hardware cloth) so the blades poke through. Works great!

Peanut's crop seems to have emptied and she ate a few bites of yogurt. She is still very tired and her tail is still drooping but shes not breathing heavily anymore. Peanut is usually very rowdy and loud but she remains quiet. Is this typical of a sour crop?
