ok thanks, well I'll be happy if I get at least one girl out of them. I was hoping to have her hatch a few eggs in the future. If I keep one roo, will he get along with the other roos or should I find new homes for both of them.
I know this is supposed to be impossible, but what do you think?
They are five weeks old
This first one I'm guessing roo. He's the only one starting to get a comb and his head feathers are growing back instead of straight up
This one I'm guessing hen. no comb yet and head feathers are...
We decided to add to our flock, 2 roosters to 11 hens and they were starting to fight a bit. I found a craigslist listing for 8 hens for a good price so I went to pick them up.
It ended up being a young girl, in her early teens selling them. she had a set up in a barn with a lot of large...
I just love how they're all free range eggs but the green ones are supposedly more nutritious. I guess people that don't own chickens might fall for it, just like they sometimes tend to believe brown eggs are better than white.
ya it's nerve wracking, and it takes a bit of time but as long as your close to make sure they're not fighting they'll eventually be ok. You never know how they'll react. I was cleaning brooders today and have a pen set up in the yard, so I threw my 3, 3 week old silkies in with my 5 4 week...
I don't think that's true. Not that I've noticed anyways, I have 11 hens and average 8-9 eggs a day. Maybe if the rooster to hen ratio is too high and is stressing your hens out? I haven't had a problem with it though, every one free ranges and funny enough the roosters hang out most of the...
Mine are four weeks, at five weeks they'll go to a sectioned off part of the coop, basically separating the girls with chicken wire, so they can see and not get to each other. And then somewhere between 6-8 weeks I'll start letting them free range together. It also depends on how many your...
Is it normal for their combs to get floppy, or could it be a sign of illness?? My roosters stand perfectly tall but some of the hens are falling over. Mostly the black sex link and New Hampshires. Don't mind Minnie's stink eye
