So I'm doing the urban farming thing, have 3 4-month old Pekin Hens and 3 4-month old Buff Orp Hens.
They all free range in my yard during the day, and at night I coop them up with an attached run, lots of
space for them to hang out eat, drink, etc...
Thing is I have neighbors on either side of...
I have 3 Pekin hens, today in the backyard, all 3 were swimming. One just kept laying in the pool.
Thought she was caught on something. I removed her from pool, and laid her on the ground.
Figured she'd get up and waddle off... but no, she just fell flat, like her left leg wasn't working.
No...
Raising my chicks with recent Pekin duck hatchlings... of course the ducks make a mess, play in their water etc...
which makes my chicks wet almost all the time. It is 90 out here in New Orleans, so I'm not worried about
temps, what else should I worry about... maybe fungus? I could separate...
My Pekins came with little brown right leg bracelets. They look like they'll expand and fall
off as the ducks grow, but I was wondering why, and should I remove them myself?

So I'm an idiot, 5-day old chicks, hanging out in my backyard, eating on some bugs, me watching over them.
No big deal, pretty 95-degree weather... one of my dogs got close to sniff, trying to acclimate dogs to
the chicks in hopes they'll eventually share the yard... I know, how Disney of me...

Pretty cool, post office called, I went and got them. Temp in their brooder, which is in my shed, is holding steady at 95degrees.
Just a simple 40-watt bulb, they ate some grogel, but preferred their starter feed.
