Hi
One of my birds has fly strike around her bum. She is about 8 years old and has had a dirty bum for some time. The first time I cleaned her there were many maggots but I seemed to get rid of them all. I then bathed her again about three weeks later in disinfectant and the were no maggots. Her...
Hi
Yesterday, I was giving some scraps to my chooks and I noticed one of them pooing. The poo was a live mass of tiny worms wriggling around. The chook seems otherwise healthy. What can I do for them as I suspect that the other girls will be the same.
Thankyou
My chooks are suffering. Today reached 45c (110f) and the girls were all suffering. I gave then cold water to drink. They forcast the same for tomorrow. (S.E. Australia). Would it be a shock for them if I gave them a dunk in a cool bath? I dont want to give them a heart attak!

I have had chooks for a couple of years now but recently our 11 hens have been producing less and less eggs, however there have not been any eggs for three days now. Some off the birds are getting on a bit but most of them are under 18 months and are rhode island reds. The has been lots of...
Most of the eggs that I get from my flock have that lovely deep orange colour yolk yet recently a couple of the eggs seem to have a very pale yellow yolk, similar to the typical supermarket battery egg. I don't think that I have changed anything. Can anyone suggest a reason?

I have my mother and chick seperated from the rest of the girls but the door seperating has gaps in it. Last week I found blood all over the mum and around the gap separating the two. This week I have been trying in intergrate the Mum & chick with the rest. I have just found Mum fighting with...
I have a mum isolated with her three week old aracuna chick. They both seem keen on getting in with the other girls; should I put them in the main run? BTW There is no rooster.

Brilliant.....
I started doing this today...my chicks are 5 weks old and I can see who the boys are. When I go over to feed them, I pat the boys sideways for about a minte while the girls eat.
My first job when go over now is to pat the boys away for the first minute.
I feel awefull...
I was trying to get people to think a little more of the product we buy. I like the fact that vegetarians feel strongly about farming practices and change their lifestyle. By not buying the products that we know to be raised by bad animal husbandry, we cast a strong vote. Most people on here are...
Just read this: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=8496 and I want to get every one on hear to start to tell everyone they know to ONLY buy free range eggs and get the battery industry stopped.
My friend has rescued a bird that has been de-beaked and she called me to ask if it will grow back. I suspected that it wouldn't but I thought one of you guys can give her definitive answer. The Chook is in a loving happy home now.
Thanks

Lost one of my two week old chicks today. The mum was seperated from the rest of the hens with her two babies in the main shed. Went to see them at this morning and they were fine then went back at ten oclock and one was missing, looked all over. Found the poor little thing floating in a half...
This is gonna sound strange but I have this Question and I thought to myself I need to ask an American, then I thought of you guys: I have been reading a John Grisham Novel ( The Runaway Jury) and in it it speaks of "Alternates" and I remember not understanding the use of the word in 'Top Gun'...
Well folks here are the little babies as promised.
I took some scraps out earlier and gave some bread to Mother Hen and it was so good to see her breaking it up for the little ones!
Does anybody know how to stop the chooks laying where they are. There are two nesting boxes completly devoid of eggs but plenty over in the corner where I have to climb over two perches to get them!
Any idea will be welcome.
Tony
