Over a month ago the chickens started attacking/eating there own eggs. I have oyster shells out they never seem to bother with them. Anyway to make this stop. Half the time they don't even eat the whole shell. Its like they are boycotting me getting eggs.
Suggestions?
on top of that issue...
So i followed what people suggest for introducing chicks. I placed them outside in a pen next to the coop/run this weekend and last weekend. Sat night i put them in the coop in a separate cage, then put them next to the run, last night i did the same thing , but this time let them loose inside...
going to try that this weekend. Havent had much time lately. i have a mesh fence up to coral them on the outside of the gate. I was hoping a couple days of that, then i remember someone said to introduce at night time helps as well
Also i'm not sure if its because i only got two this time, and they don't have the socialization skills, but they are kind of jerks. hoping they get a little nicer when they are with there 5 older sisters
Mine did the same thing. The first couple nights were annoying, the first night i gave up and put it back on they were so loud. mine are 6 weeks, and haven't had the light on for a full 2 days now. My electric meter is now a little happier. Good luck, just have to deal with the noise for a...
So, i was at my local feed store and they had 2 chicks left. I figured i'd bring them home, i already have 5 hens from last year. Now its been 6 weeks, i want to bring them outside. Whats the best way to integrate them? Also i feed my hens egg producing chicken feed. I assume i have to lay...
I was going to put lyme down in my yard today before the rain tomorrow. Is there a certain amount of time i should wait before the chickens can be let out of there run? I only have 5 chickens in a 144Sqft run, so they have plenty of space for a couple of days, but i'd like them to get out and...
Last week i had to take care of one of my first chickens, she was about 5 months old. Not sure what happened but she got lathargic, segregated herself from the rest, and everyday she just diminished more and more until she could barely walk. So i took care of it before she got even worse. So...
60's during the day, low 50's at night i think these days.. NY
Today shes moving a lot more then yesterday, and she was out grazing with the rest, still a little slow on the feet, but she did get out of the coop on her own this morning, and shes not just laying around like yesterday. But i did...
One of my pullets is barely eating, and is laying around all day barely walking, seems like she can just chooses not to. tonight i had to pick her up and put her in the coop, this way i know she was safe from raccoons and what not. Not sure what to do, noticed it yesterday, and today is way...
So one of my hens which i thought originally was maturing the fastest turned out to be the slowest. The last couple of days she been resting a lot. I let them out in the yard today the other 5 hens are running around eating everything and doing there normal routine, but this on just came out...
Sounds like i could take his coop, its just a DIY pallet one, if i can take it apart easily and put it in, i think i'm going to do it.
If i take them the first night should i put them in my coop so they co-mingle in the AM? then the next day hopefully they will go in their old coop?
I have 6 20 week old pullets at the moment, one just started to lay. My friend has 4 hens he's trying to get rid of that are about 2 years old. My run is 144sqft so i know thats big enough but my small A frame coop is only about 4'X5'. Do you think 10 chickens would get along in a coop that...
So today would have been my second egg, however the egg was soft and broken when i found it. I assume that might be a normal thing when they start laying. However i found the egg underneath the roost. Almost as if she layed it while she was roosting. That happen to anyone else, i have oyster...
I know chickens start between 18-22 weeks, just starting week 19. 3 out of 6 of my chicks are starting to show signs that they might be laying soon. Only 1 has recently started to squat. Question is, now that fall is around the corner, and its getting darker sooner should i put some sort of...
