Today, as I washed Sick Chicken's foot in warm water, huge chunks of that stuff started to peel away from her foot. Her foot is now a little pink and in some places a bit red and raw, and there are still some stubborn chunks that still need to come off, but YOU CAN SEE HER FOOT AGAIN! And she...
Okay so I got back today (I spend the weekends at home in the big bad city). Straight after work I went out armed with vegetable oil (rapeseed) and the vaseline. Washed her foot in warm water, then dunked it in the oil and then slathered on vaseline for good measure. I'm not taking any chances...
Okay, so I got home from work today, filled a basin with warm soapy water, picked up Sick Chicken and dunked her foot.
She was not best impressed.
I rubbed at her foot but to be honest I didn't know which part was her foot and which part was weird growth so I ended up just getting the worst...
Thanks so much! I'm so glad she can get better, she's really sweet! Will buy Vaseline and - I assume - rubber gloves tomorrow. This is going to sound like a stupid question, but she's not used to handling - the most I ever do is stroke her - and I'm wondering what the best way is to treat her...
1) What type of bird , age and weight: A year old? A red hen, not sure what breed or weight.
2) What is the behavior, exactly: Serious limping, lies down a lot. Eating, drinking and pooping though. And pretty alert.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms: Ages. A couple of months...
I've posted pics now so you can see how bad the problem is. Apart from the foot thing she seems happy enough - she's eating, drinking, and pooping. She's just weighed down with this business, poor girl... I looked in all the nooks and crannies and couldn't find anything that looked like lice or...
Thanks for the replies, I'll take a photo tomorrow and post it up here so you can see for yourselves. It's pretty nasty though. She looks like her leg is turning into a small bonsai tree.
I know, I've become ridiculously attached to the poor chooks after only a few days, they're really lovely and I love the sounds they make! I don't even know what breed they are but they're so sweet... Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
I've recently become a part-caretaker of two chickens, I call them Sick Chicken and Rizzo. I've grown extremely fond of Sick Chicken. There's something wrong with her leg - from what I'm reading, it could be scaly leg mites, but it is REALLY bad. I mean, her leg is twice the size of the other...
Hi everyone! I've moved in with my boyfriend's parents for eight weeks while I'm working for them, and they own chickens. Well, they did own eight but now they're down to two. Anyway, I've grown pretty fond of them - Sick Chicken and Rizo - and in my efforts to help Sick Chicken I came across...
