It looks like I'll be keeping them awhile longer

Integrating new babies into flock, Help please.

I went out to open the coop door this morning and everyone was fine. My BO hen is the leader of the older girls and she is a little pecky with the little ones, but she never removes feathers or draws blood so I think it will be OK. So far so good.

It wasn't supposed to be this way....

It's funny how that works. I sort of fell into this chicken thing, and have found that my chickens are better pets than my cat. They all have personalities and are actually affectionate. Who would have thought?

    Flies, they're driving me nuts.

Predator wasps...I have friends that use them in their horse barns, they work great. There are several companies that ship them.

Integrating new babies into flock, Help please.

I just went to check on them, and they are all in a big fluffy chicken pile cuddled together in the coop, this makes me SO happy. I sure hope this works.

Ameracauanas (Are we boys or girls?)

Quote: That would be awesome! I have to say that I will be really surprised if Butter is a hen. He/She fights with all of the other chicks, and before I re-homed my Wyandotte Roo (who was the same age) I could have charged admission for Junior Cock Fighting. They were nasty to each other.

Ameracauanas (Are we boys or girls?)

It is SO hard to get a decent picture of their combs. Their feathers cover half of it at this point. Can you tell me what I am looking for? This is way harder than a BO to figure out. Thanks for your help.

Integrating new babies into flock, Help please.

Hello, I am loooking for a little integration advice. I have 3 hens that are 11 weeks old and 4 chicks that are 4 weeks old. They have been in the run togehter with a divider in the middle (they could see each other) for about a week. Tonight I slipped the babies into the coop with the bigger...

Ameracauanas (Are we boys or girls?)

How long do you think it will take to be able to know for sure? Would it be safe to assume that Butter is for sure a roo and rehome him?

Ameracauanas (Are we boys or girls?)

Hello...I have three 4 week old Ameracuanas, anyone want to guess who gets to stay and who has to go? I have someone who will take the roosters, and would love to re-home them before I go on vacation on Thursday. Thanks for your help! Chippy Chippy Chippy Chippy Butter Butter...

    leftover steak?

If you haven't given them meat before get the camera ready. Mine turn into carniverous hawks when you give them meat. Super cute to watch them running around tearing at a piece of steak. They LOVE it. Have fun.

    Chickens+Heat+Fans??

The heat index here has been around 115 for the last four days. I put a fan in the window of my coop (blowing into the coop). They congregate around the fan and don't move all day long, even piling on top of one another to be the one closest to the fan. Happy chickens in the breeze

    Cochin roo? too?

My 11 week old Cochin pullets are starting to get combs and wattles...I vote pullet, I am pretty sure mine will look just like her in a few weeks.

one of my hens just honked

One of my BO hens sounds like a goose (most of the time) and she is definitely a "she".
  16. BeckyandHerBrood

    Are they Pullets?

    I agree...all girls.

    Wyandotte Chicks...Any guess on Gender?

Thanks everyone. Hopefully I get at least one hen out of the group (which is all I really wanted to keep). I have a feeling they might all be roos. We shall see. I'll post more pics in a few days when they are four weeks old and see what everyone thinks.
