Re: The Worst Predator
Well, we have had our first experiences with predators, and sad to say we've lost 6 of our flock, including my favorite Naked Neck rooster Bello,
and his sister, beautiful golden blonde Gloria.

You were TOTALLY committed to "freezer camp" for those rowdy roosters when they were chicks, and
now because you named them you're thinking of getting more hens so there's plenty of lady lovin' to go
around for all those cluckin' knuckleheads...
...talk about chicken math turning into chicken...
Hey Bliss...
I feel ya...we've had over a month of 100 degree plus temps...too hot to build a proper hen house...I got over excited and chicken math kicked in...the twelve I intended to buy became 32 and ALMOST included DUCKS!!!! Thank goodness I dodged THAT bullet!!
My chooks are just at four...
Or at least they're acting like teenagers! I've got twelve beautiful roos and twenty hens and we're at the four month mark...
I walked outside Tuesday to feed and water and it was like world war two in the hen pen! I've gotta get the winter palace done
quick, otherwise I'm going to have to...
Hey everyone,
As we've been experimenting and learning what works, figured I'd share.
Here in Derby (near Wichita) its been ungodly hot (we are now the 4th hottest city in the US), and we set up a mister
system for our flock of 12 roos and 20 hens as they wait for their much anticipated coop to...
A rather intense, "Whatchutawkin'boutWillis" form of stinkeye...either Henny or Penny, they're practically identical.
Taken, by the way, by budding photographer niece, who answers to "Gloriosa" or "DE-Daytime Emmy" LOL!
Hey LovesMe...
Everyone calls me the MuthahCluckah here, mostly because no chicken ( or any other animal for that matter) frightens me-guess I'm kind of a "whisperer"
Recently I had one of my young Roos come at me, peck me like he was going to eat me and then tried to box me...
I grabbed him...
Wow...
Amazing the variety of names...
Ok, lets see...
Mofo
Henny & Penny (we have several that are almost identical.)
P-Diddy, Diddy or Diddilous (he or she has the funniest mutton chop feathers)
Peach
Pear
Uncle Louie
Crazy Neo (a Turken with mutton chops...also named after an uncle...don't...

Hey there! MuthaCluckah here from the center of the Plains, Derby Ks!
I am transplanted here from Los Angeles, but had to travel clear to just outside Wichita to marry a boy from Derby Kansas who's almost as crazy about chooks as I am!
We have a flock of 32 (I never do anything in a...
I have a mixed flock of 32, Black Australorps, Welsummers, Wyandottes, Turkens, Dominiques, Buff Orps, Americanas, and Marans...10 cockerels who are getting along quite well and the rest pullets. 11 weeks old now, outside, super healthy and active. They eat mesclun mix lettuce from the garden...
I know what you mean!! I've got 32 that are ten weeks old now, and OHMYGOD is bedding & poop in
the water tedious! I've got em in their brooder/chick palace right now, with a large playground under a
maple tree. I have been a florist & an event planner most of my life; and we're known to be...
Hey,
I'm a chook newbie myself, but in my overzealous research to make sure my babies were getting the best of everything, I
visited with a large bird specialist who had cockatoo chicks that were being weaned off hand feeding...they were making the
most horrific noises, so finally I asked "are...
