All,
We have performed the 'surgery' three times now on our girl Eagle. While it doesn't seem to be getting worse, it's not getting better. Her foot (as you can see from the images) is very very very swollen, and the swelling is not going away. There doesn't seem to be any puss or 'kernel'...
One of our very heavy chickens had what was a very bad case of Bumblefoot. We have been away so it was only noticed by our neighbor on Saturday. By the time we got back, researched (thanks to these forums) and made the decision to do the surgery ourselves it was today.
We feel it went well. We...
So very odd. They have all been very healthy and found one of the chicks completely flattened in the crate this morning. Can't tell what really happened. Why would she be flat (?) Any ideas, anyone know why this could have happened and what can prevent it in the future? Any thoughts are...
so we FINALLY got eggs. We are beyond excited!!!!
However, our chickens are laying their eggs on the ground, and they have made an indent in the ground to do so. This morning there was an egg on the poop board (broken) as we think they laid it while they were roosting. Is this normal...
Okay, so we just got 16 baby chicks delivered to us this morning. They are unbelievably adorable but want to make sure we are taking proper care. They are currently in an extra-large dog crage with wire on the bottom (so they can't slip out), hay, some old soft towels and the requisite feeder...
I feel like we are going through a heck of a lot of food and am thinking a little creature (chipmunk) might be getting into the food at night. If so, it's easy enough to put the food in the garage, but was wondering how many lbs. of feed a chicken eats typically.
Thanks!
We are on week two of chickens -- we received 8 from a friend of ours and now believe that 2 of them are roosters. Is it okay to have two roosters in the flock? Or do we need to start thinking about getting rid of one? Thanks!!!!!
My husband and I have been having an on-going debate about the size of the run. Currently it is about 116sq. feet, which, if you go by the forum should be enough for 10 chickens. However, now that I see the layout it seems REALLY small --- we will not be free-ranging, too many predators...
Hi all -- we are in the throws of finishing up our coop and my DH is now at the point of digging the trench to bury the hardware cloth. We are extremely nervous about predators so will be burying about 8" deep. Question -- what is the easiest way to do this or is there just no easier way other...
All -- quick question -- we need another 8' of hardware cloth to go around the bottom of our coop (we are burying it). However, we don't want to have to spend another $40 on another roll of 25'. How much *better* and/or *safer* is it? We want to make sure we are predator proof and will likely...
Hi -- new to backyardchickens and loving reading the forum!! We are currently building a coop to house the 10 chickens we have a friend holding for us in her coop.
We have a solid design and are making it super-dooper-predator proof (hardware cloth buried 10"); secure latches, etc. etc
I...
