    Limping Duck!

Sorry for the late reply! Glad you've already received helpful advice! I've learned a lot about ducks (at least our ducks) since I made the original post.. The main thing being that they are decently resilient when it comes to most ailments. Our duck Lola will develop a limp probably every...

    Wing & Foot help!

Update: Lola seems to be putting more weight on the foot and is hobbling around the yard foraging and hanging with the rest of the flock. We started her on Niacin supplements and have been feeding her kale as well. Hopefully she'll recover more and more!

    Wing & Foot help!

Thank you for your reply, Amiga! Lola is about a year and a half old, I was thinking that it could also be a stroke, especially since the issues were on the same side of the body. Do you know of any info about that? We have been keeping her isolated in our coop in a smallish area where food...

    Wing & Foot help!

We have a golden 300 named Lola and she commonly gets bumble foot which after giving her antibiotics typically heals just fine. A few days ago we noticed that she was limping and after checking her foot did not notice any sores that typically accompany bumble foot. Then yesterday, we noticed her...

    Mallard in 'eclipse' mode

I know that male mallards go through a molt in the summer, but ours seems to have been molting for about 8ish months. He did drop all of his flight feathers a few weeks back and has been getting new ones but his head has not been green for a very long time. Does any body know why that could be...

    Racist Drake???

We have 4 ducks- 3 ladies and one little butt head drake, Harvey. We've noticed that he attacks our Welsh Harlequin, but is totally fine with the other two (Khaki Campbell and Golden 300). I assumed it was just due to pecking order, since our Welsh is the most timid of the girls, but my husband...

And just for fun, here is Lola! She's a Golden 300 and a very large, but very sweet duck!

    Limping Duck!

Ok, so today we gave Lola a bath and attempted soaking the foot in warm salt water, which ended up quite messy! I'm wondering if anyone has any good techniques for holding a duck while soaking the foot and how to best soak it... The second time we tried, she started panting really hard and...

    Limping Duck!

Alright, here is a picture: So I'm pretty sure it's bumble foot. Can anyone confirm? Of course, all of our vets and feed stores are closed on Sundays so we are going to have to wait until Monday to get her antibiotics. Does anyone have suggestions of what to use and where to get them from...

    Limping Duck!

One of my ducks has a really bad limp that has been getting progressively worse over the past couple of weeks. It isn't yet preventing her from getting to food and water and she still forages around the yard during the day, but she definitely tucks it up under her wing as often as possible. Are...

    New to Ducks

You should definitely get Welsh Harlequins, they are really pretty and sweet too, although mine is kind of skittish. My Khaki Campbell is pretty bold and affectionate though!

When can we start eating our ducks eggs?

So, as I mentioned in a few posts ago, our oldest lady duck just started laying eggs! I'm wondering when we can start eating them? It weirds me out a little to think about picking it up out of the coop and cracking it open into the frying pan, any tips on how to clean them & store them for...
