    Keeping Chickens Free Range

Hi yall. Mine love free range. I let them out in the morning and at 7 I go out and they are on there roosts in the coop. I have lots of bushes around our property and they love hanging out in them. I do not have a predator problem, thank goodness. A hawk from time to time, but they rush to...

    Does anyone else Free Range?

I let mine free range, let them out in the morning and about 7 at night they are in there coop. We have lots of bushes surrounding our property where they like to hang out. No real major predator problems, other than a few stray cats, but when the rooster flaps his wings, they scatter...lol...

Does anyone feed chickens "the old fashioned" way?

CountryChicks....I love how you raise your chicks. I too got frustrated buying chicken feed only to have most of it wasted, either it would get wet or just sit there. My chickens free range during the day and do not even touch the feed, only when I dont let them out for a few days, due to...

Do hens go Broody certain times of the year

Ok I am a newbie, do chickens go broody only certain times of the year. I was told it had to do with the weather, and such. Kind of confused. I live in West Louisiana. I have cochin bantams and japanese bantams. They all are 4 months old. I have a nest box already in the coop. I would...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Trust me the pecans do not stay on the ground long, what with the squirrels and birds. I do keep the chicken area cleaned and raked and the chickens would rather have the worms and bugs under the tree rather than the pecans. Thank you for that advice though, much appreciated. My hubby says...

    Scrap Cooping!

Hi everyone. This is my first coop, built by myself. Its not all pretty but it does the job and I am well proud of myself for building it. It was built using all scrap material around the house. Some old fence boards. I plan on enclosing the back half with plywood or boards, and build a...
