    Not Delawares

Thank you so much for the advice. It really puts things in perspective. As far as leg color goes, I read on other boards that the blue leg color is dominant, but a separate gene from the yellow legs. So, they either have yellow or white base color, and then if they have a blue gene, the white...

    Not Delawares

Thank you for your reply. I do not expect to get show quality, I breed for egg production and meat. I however, would like them to look like Delawares, lol.

    Not Delawares

I started breeding Delawares last year with stock from Whitmore Farm, and was very happy with the adults and their offspring. Unfortunately, we had a raccoon incident, and I had to get some new breeding stock. I was unable to get from Whitmore, so went to Ideal Poultry, which I had heard great...

Thanks. That's what my instincts were telling me, but I wanted to make sure. The chicks are about 7 weeks.

    Chicks first week outside

Hi. I'm new to chickens and not sure what to think of this. My chicks have just transitioned to their outdoor coop and run 3 days ago. So far, with few exceptions, they won't go in or out of the coop by themselves. Once they're in, they are happy as can be. Once they're out, just as happy...

    Suppose to be an Araucana?

JodyJo- Thank you. I've never had chickens before, but I think she's the most beautiful chick ever, lol. Cashdl- Scarlett has some gold edging on the feathers, but the rest of the splotches are her "baby feathers." I posted pictures below of her at 3 and 4 weeks so you could see what she...

    Kids and chickens contest!

These are so adorable! My boys are crazy in love with their new chicks. We call him the "Mighty Chicken Hunter." He can catch those chickens quicker than anyone! And this is our "Chicken Whisperer." He is very gentle and understanding, and the chickens just walk right up to him.

    Suppose to be an Araucana?

Thank you for all the responses. It's good to see I'm not the only one confused here, lol. I decided to add a few extra pictures in case that helps. I don't know if these help determine skin color or not? Someone mentioned she had roo coloring, but she not a roo, right? I think she...

    Suppose to be an Araucana?

I have a beautiful, 6 week old pullet who is suppose to be an Araucana. I know Araucanas can have all different coloration (at least Ameraucanas), but this one is like a lavender color with gold lacing. I'm wondering if she truly is an Araucana or possibly a Gold Laced Wy? Or maybe something...

    Mostly black Silver Laced Wyandotte?

Thank you, that's what I was thinking, but I was kinda hoping for the Wy. So, I should expect her face to turn all black, right?

    Mostly black Silver Laced Wyandotte?

Hi. I have a 6 week old silver laced wyandotte, that doesn't seem to have much silver. She also has black legs, which I haven't seen any pictures of SLWs with. Could she be a Black Austrolorp, or is she just a very dark SLW? Will she lighten up as she gets older? Any information or opinions...
