What color will blk. AMxlavender am chicks be

I bred my black ameraucana roo to a lavender hen. The chicks were black when born, but now at 12 weeks+ seem to be getting lighter more grayish feathers. Will they be black or lighten up? It was suggested to me when I was looking for ameraucanas to breed the lavender back to black. Why? I...

My blk am roo is skittish as all get out......so are the 2 hens.....the lav. more than the blk, but my fbcm roo just stays out of my way w/o being crazy. They are both really good with the girls and once caught are fine.

I have jealously been reading all these posts and drooling over all the gorgeous olive egg photos for weeks now, but finally I will be incubating the eggs from my blk. copper marans roo and blk. and lavendar ameraucana hens next week. Can anyone tell what the chicks will look like from...

I use a needle to make the holes and only make the biggest hole maybe 1/4th of an inch and the other a bit smaller. Put your needle (or whatever) in the largest hole and stir it around to break up the yolk, then blow it out from the smaller hole. Stirring the yolk up makes it much, much easier.

If you let them free range, they will find the pond!! If you restrict them to a kiddie pool you will be stunned at how quickly it becomes very messy. Duck eggs are all but indistinguishable from chicken eggs as far as taste, but the shell is harder to crack and is sort of translucent looking...

That's one of the best things about BYC...no smartalecky responses to what appears to some of us not so bright questions. We all have been there somewhere sometime and it sure doesn't hurt just to answer the questions nicely.

    Do hens store sperm?

If so for how long? I've separated my bcm roo with 2 ameracauna hens from the rest of the flock that includes 2 other roos. How long will it be before the eggs that are laid will be from the bcm roo? Just found this link that answers my question, plus other interesting things I didn't know...

Hi everybody! I'm not in Arkansas, but pretty close. I just started out with chickens this month. Got some Delaware and Silkie chicks on the 11th and then 4 RIR hens on the 18th. I lost my first chick (silkie) a few days ago. I'll tell you right now I have a lot of learning and toughening up to...

I am trying the deep litter method with pine shavings. Now I do not have nearly as big a coop as you have, but what I have done is every few days is take the pitchfork in and fluff the shavings. Everything was fine until last month , then there was a mild ammonia odor that I couldn't track...

While mulling over my breeding plans for some oes with my bcm x blk am or lav am, this thought occurred to me, will the egg production increase over what my am produce? Are marans better layers than am and which will affect egg production? The roo or the hen?
