I really am sorry for your losses. Yes, it is smart to isolate before bringing them into a current flock. Did any of then new chickens get sick? No, no need to vaccinate for Marek. As soon as they hatch they could have been exposed to the virus. There is nothing you need to vaccinate with a mother hen. In Germany it is mandatory to vaccinate for Newcastle. I don't know if France has mandatory vaccinations. Besides the doses are...- abpatchy

I'm so sorry about your hen! Maybe a good option would be to cover the run with netting. Also keeps the hawks out. And you wouldn't need to clip the wings. Of course I don't know your run and if netting is an option.- abpatchy

Oh, sorry. I never did an update! It went really really well. I set 25 eggs. 2 were not fertilized. One died off. The rest hatched! I have never had such a great hatch before! One I had to cull because it kept looking up, couldn't keep it's balance. Tried some Vitamine D complex but it...- abpatchy

I set my first bantam eggs yesterday. 25 eggs from 4 hens. The last hen laying laid one egg for me just the day before! Good girl!! I also set 40 bantam Barnevelder for a friend. So exciting! I am wondering how those bantam will be compared to the LF.- abpatchy

You know they have to be ready for the shows starting in October. I am also breeding to get more breeders. So if they are "overdone" that is still fine. But I have to make sure they get their immunization. And for that I have to breed for certain dates. It's all different when you want to...- abpatchy

Due to difficulties in my life I had to cut down on chickens. I will probably just have the bantam Sulmtaler in the future. I can't quite let them go all the way... I have only one breeding group left 1.4 and 2 bantam groups 2.4.- abpatchy

How hard is it to study for the exams to become a poultry judge? I was able to join a poultry judge a couple of weeks ago and it was so much fun. He said I had an eye for it and that I should go for it in a couple of years. (5 years minimum of successful showing is required... couldn't show...- abpatchy

@BDutch just read about your lock down... I am so sorry to hear that! The shows are over. I did ok. 2 points more and I would have been German Champion in Erfurt. One point to club champion and one point to State Champion. It was upsetting. Especially because I wasn't able to use my two...- abpatchy

I breed Sulmtaler. If you go back in this thread I have posted some pictures. I just came back from the vet. The birds that are being shown at the show have to be vet checked. One rooster tried to escape... the vet caught him with the tail... long story short, he lost half of his tail...- abpatchy

Hello everyone! just wanted to let you all know I am still alive 😂 I am getting my birds ready for the show in Erfurt. It is a pretty big show and it does include German Champion for each breed. I don't think I have any chances but one can dream, right?- abpatchy
