I am needing to reduce my numbers, and breeds so for Delaware enthusists in MI mine are available. I am sad to have to do this but it has to be. I have a beautiful trio of adults, and getting nothing but jumbo eggs from them. I also have some ot their chicks to go with them, in a brooder now...

Well, mine arenot Bantams, hens are at least 4 lbs and the rooster is 5-6lbs, they eggs go from XLarge to Jumbo, they are seriously not Bantam. My hens are quite docile, the rooster is protective, which I dont mind at all. I would like to hear from others about their egg sizes.

She sounds like a bantam to me. By five mos should be at least 2/3rds her yearling size which is way bigger then a bantam, my hens are 4-5 lbs. A bantam hen wont go over 2 lbs. Or shouldnt.

Just enjoy your keeper, the temperament might indicate a pullet, time will tell which. I'd forgotten about McMurray, they drop ship a lot of their varieties so its hard to say what theirs are. Meyers I dont know about either. Your best bet is to later get some hatching eggs from someone here...

It is most likely to be a store error. That said the only hatchery shipping Delawares that I can think of in quantity for a store would be Ideal. Anyhow, you got two good looking youngsters, how many others do you have?

Yup, thats how I feel about them. Very active little guys, giving the others a run for their money. About sat. the all go to the outside brooder, by then there will be hatches in the inside brooder totes. The light colored one is getting darker and the dark one getting penciling. Fascinating to...

I for one do very much want to get some of Kathys latest lines. I can relate to her problems though so will wait. I have some of her older line, and my first incubator bunch had a power outage for four hours and I only got 9 out of 41 eggs hatched. Of these 2 are Delawares, of different...

Very nice !! How soon can you move it to Northern MI ?? To add to your list of predators I have to add Owls and Coyotes. So they are covered and stout, but each breed gets a day out to roam and range but, confined at night. Has to be. I havent, yet, been troubled by either Weasels or...

Ditto, every time I try to make a call when too young I get tripped up. Whichever its a good looking youngster, but, if my life depended on it I would go with cockeral. Wait and see, you have a good one whichever.

Diet can be a big factor in leg coloring, but for me its not even a factor for me to track. Unless its shown to be traveling with other more important genes. None of my chicks show other then yellow legs, as do the parents. I am building up a stock of these but I do want to buy some eggs...

Its very interesting the colors I am getting on my Delaware chicks, the first chick was dark, now graying with white showing up, the others are white, with some black tipping on the wings, none are feathered out yet, still downy babies. I am going to start marking all the chicks , other then...

I have thought of running them all together but I want to keep track of egg production per breed so keeping them separate is the only answer I came up with. Its costing more then I'd thought on building pens, and still have houses to build. That wont be til late summer at best. But with the flock...

Just doing right by these three breeds is a challenge, what with pens etc to keep them separate. And ranging gets less with each additional breed. I want them to range as a single breed, so 4-5 breeds means almost half as much time ranging as with 3. But it could be worth it with just four...

I have the three breeds this year, hope to add 2 more next year, and while I amnot comparing them to see which is best, I am going to be tracking POL, maturity for the freezer etc. I want to make a notebook with these for all three breeds. Each has something distinctive about them that makes me...
