Maybe a silly question, and I'm sure the answer is in the thread but there are so many pages to read! I hatched a brown egg from a farmyard mix I picked up locally, mostly barred rocks and marans, but she said she had some americana (ee I am sure). One is definately a barred rock, I got one...
If an EE is bred to something else will the offspring necessarily have the muffs or green legs?? I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that my Mariposa is a "muffless, yellow legged green egg layer", lol, but think that the lady pulled a fast one on me.
GACK!! Don't say that, I just got rid of two roos... I live in the city and am trying to keep the noise down. What makes you think roo? Shes got pale skin and her comb is small, I'm really new to chickens so I could be fooled, but she was sexed before I bought her at 4 weeks old.
Yep, shes got really pale legs... not green like an EE is supposed to be. I'm keeping the fingers crossed for green eggs, but my momma said if she lays brown or white she'll trade me an australorp for an EE since she has 6! Mariposa has a super cute personality, she acts like she doesn't want to...
I was told mariposa was an americauna, but looking at her next to my brahma pullet I wonder if she isn't part brahma due to her hackle feathers... probably not since she doesnt have feathery legs and isnt GIANT, but their necks look at lot alike. Oh, and I think she broke her toe, its crooked...
do EE fly earlier than other breeds? I have three year old australorps ( one knows how to fly) an 9 week old gold laced wy, and a 7 week old EE and I found the EE flying in and out of the pen I had her in to keep her from the big girls.... I let the two little girls out with the big girls...
Thanks Kassaundra for your reply, I was just wondering if the black and white would be considered a splash like it seems to be in the silkies? She doesnt seem to have any specific pattern, but we'll see when she gets her adult feathers. Her legs are a funny color, paler than my wyandotte and...
Hi, I'm pretty new to chickens and have purchased what was advertised as an americauna pullet, and a gold laced wyandotte pullet to add to my flock of three australorps. I have read several times that most "americaunas" are actually mixed breeds, which makes them easter eggers... She's cute, so...
