I am sad to say I have two Orloff boys that will most likely end up in a soup pot. They have finally matured and are really being aggressive with all the girls. They are so big they are injuring the hens. No one around here has heard of an orloff or wants the guys so...... I know I'll end up...
I have two boys who are needing homes. They are obviously not my best but seem to look ok just not as stocky as my other boy. They are mahogany colored with spangling. In the pictures they look darker than they are because of the snow. They were hatched in June but just starting to show the...
This is my first winter with Orloffs and I am amazed by them. They really don't seem to care about rain or snow. These four were out enjoying the sun today.
happyhens - I know nothing but check out Farmerboy16. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=587948 He has been through it all and now has a clean flock. You have some tough times ahead from the sound of it.
I have 4 Orloffs the same age - 6 months almost 7. I can tell 2 are hens and 1 is a rooster. The other bird is still a mystery. I thought roo but now I'm not sure.
My roo on left and mystery on right.
All four together with 3rd from left in back the mystery bird.
And one of my pullets.
For me that predatory look is part of what drew me to RO. I have 4 from a breeder and 3 from a hatchery and hatchery may have the color right but that predatory look is gone. Without it they just look like some spangled EE.
I had to laugh at your post ashandvine because I have two roosters...
It looked to me like the bottom of his beak grew out a 1/2 inch overnight, which led me to think injury but I'm new to Orloffs and their beak is such a large part of the breed. I just wasn't sure with their beak size if they were prone to such things. Tonight he seems to be having trouble...
Orloff question, Has anyone had problems with the beak? I have a guy - I think - who seems to have injured his jaw. His bottom jaw now sticks our 1/4 inch + more than it did. It took place overnight so I'm pretty sure it was an injury. A friend told me there was not much to do for him but...
I have been reading for a while but never posted. Orloffs have been my dream bird for 2 years. My crazy attempts to get them is a very long and costly story! I now have 4 orloffs that are just under 3 months old and 3 that are a month old. At what age can you begin to tell sex on them? I'm...
