Yes, they did lay it in the nest box. I have four dutch bantam hens, but no more eggs yet. Kelly

Just got my first egg from my dutch bantams! I'm ridiculously excited. Only 9 more & I can make an omelette. :D

I have not heard of cockatiels making it in the wild here. If you don't want it I know a lady in Tolleson that would take it & find it a good home. Kelly

I am brand new to chickens & using the deep litter method. The only time I smell anything is from the poop in the "wading pool" which is a very large dish of water. And I only smell it when I bend over to pick it up daily for cleaning. No smells while standing or outside coop. Once it cools off...

I've seen them on ebay but they're expensive. I think they were getting $29 plus shipping or something.

I'm so sorry. I got a mister from Home Depot. It's just about 3 feet of bendable hose. Threaded it through chicken wire at top of coop & hooked up a water hose. It works great & only cost $14. I'll do something more permanent later but this is getting us through the summer. They also have waist...

Llamas will kick a coyote's butt. They're used to guard sheep herds in south america. I don't have the room for one, but maybe someone else does.

Well, the coyote did not return last night. Maybe all the birds it got on Monday night kept it full. If I repeatedly went out around the time he is supposed to appear, for a few weeks, and threw rocks and yelled at him, would he get scared and not come back? Or should I just bring someone in to...

We used to have tons of them here 30 years ago but land development has made them disappear. I believe they're critically endangered in AZ now. I remember when I was a child finding one on our doorstep, sick and with a mangled back leg. We kept it in an aquarium and fed it meal worms and wild...

They're not as common as coyotes but they're out there. Completely nocturnal and they can kick a dog's butt. My frenchie helped chase it away but I told the roommate not to let him do that again. We do live by North Mountain Park, so there's a lot of wildlife around. Going to give the coop a...

My roommate chased away a raccoon about an hour ago. I'm out of town and now I can't sleep for worrying. :(

I started a worm farm for the girls and they got their first worms last night. Hilarious! Two of them tucked right in and ran around screaming, with worms dangling from their mouths. Two of them were terrified and wouldn't go near the worms. Stared at them from afar while making worried noises...

I found a nice little mister that just hooks up to my hose, and the mister itself is a semi-stiff curly hose that I wrapped around one of the coop posts. My chickens are terrified of the mist, though--they move to the opposite side of the coop. I turn it on when I leave for work and turn it off...

Finally picked up my girls! Right now they prefer hanging out on top of one of the nesting boxes, and they have no problem flying up to the top. They're super friendly black Dutch Bantam pullets. My roommate says they look like miniature turkeys. They're so small, could I use a parrot ladder...

Hubby said to come see this. If he didn't know better, he would have thought this little one was dead instead of sunning itself. Thank you for posting this! I've read about it but if I saw that I would have been freaking out. Hilarious!

Bruiser in the pic is a retired show dog. Now he's a therapy dog for children's hospice. I showed a greyhound as a teenager. She finished with 52 points because there were never any majors. She was too snooty to ever lower herself to obedience, but we did do lure coursing. :D

LOL. That's common with people coming to see your newborn show dog puppies too (parvovirus can be picked up and transported by your shoes).

I didn't realize it's an issue when you have two healthy flocks. It just crossed my mind because so many people can't have or don't want roosters. I have chickens on the brain right now. Should be getting mine this weekend. Can't wait!

This might be a dumb question, but do people ever borrow roosters for a couple weeks for "stud service" or is it too hard to settle them in?
