Feedback Please!!! I want to know if despite his comb having too many points and his tail angle is a bit high (these are faults I see in him), is he usable? He is 6 months. No white fluff yet (fingers crossed here). Love his slate legs and shank feathering.
What about her?

THANK YOU and yes, I want your honest opinion :) ! However, I am not so sure he came from you after all..... I will for sure test mate him LOTS. I 4 more cockerels growing out so (3 are Cottage Hill) and I guess time will tell. This guy may be more work than he is worth ...but no white under...
Debi is great! I am happy to hear your luck with the under fluff!! My birds are 8 weeks old and are on average larger than most of the birds I have had at this point. Their backs are a little too slender for my liking but the cockerels' breasts are excellent in width! Almost out of balance to...
I got them from Heaven Sent Ranch. I agree about a work in progress but I love their young body types and the cockerels have excellent medium to dark slate legs and nice shank/toe feathering. We will see I am hoping for no white under fluff although I hear that is not likely with this line???
Hi All, What do you all think of this guy? I know he has some DQ's: his comb has too many points, his tail is high, and he has a few tufts of feathers between his middle toe BUT he does NOT have white under fluff (which I have refused to use a roo in my program that does)! I am hoping he would...
Thank you for asking those questions! I too have the EXACT same questions, especially about the EU birds vs. US. I also have 6 Cottage Hill chicks I am growing out so *fingers crossed*
Thank you Snowbird! If I don't get a useable roo soon.. errgg.. I have only BC BTW! I am trying very hard to breed to the SOP. My program has been at a halt for over a year now because of this white tail feather issue.
Thank you for not making me sound silly hehe... I have had "0" success with eliminating the white in my males. I keep culling and I am up to 4 different lines now. The white fluff and white in the tail feathers have been there in my guys all along though. Ugg... I just wonder that if there are...
At the risk of sounding wholly ignorant....So I am relatively new to BCM but have been reading and following this thread now for a year. I also have yet to grow a roo out that does not have white tail fluff or hackle under fluff. I cull them all so I have yet to have a breeding group...
So I have a question..what causes the runts in a hatch/group? I am not sure what to do with the little ones. They look weeks younger than their hatchmates except they have feathered in fine just small. Will they catch up in size or should I cull them now? This has happened in both my BCMs and my...
Thank you! Patience is not my virtue :). I'll try hard. I am glad you said that because one of the Roos is becoming a favorite. He follows me everywhere and comes running to me when I am near. My husband says he's my little puppy. I did not like the idea of culling him!
Hi all, is it ever normal for young cockerels (10 weeks) to have white tail feathers or fluff? Any chance they will molt them out or should they all be culled now?
Thank you for the reply. I agree, I am sure it is too early to tell on a few of them. But, just out of curiosity (if this was my stock and all I had--which it is not), if I placed one of the dark hens with little coloring with the over colored roo, would that improved the offspring...
Hi All,
So I am a newbie here and in the world of Marans. I wanted to post some pics of my current flock (9 weeks old) and ask a question about a small BCM chick I have. So here are the pics first (3 pullets & 3 cockerels). I would LOVE feedback on them although my pics are not great. I will try...
