That is a definite possibility because it is one of the breeds listed.. the main reason I didn't consider it was size. I thought they were more banty sized and this chick is ginormous..but of course hatchery could probably be any size..
Thank you♡♡ I didn't even consider skin/leg color... Ive looked thru what Meyer carries 100,829,193 times but havent figured out what any of these babies are short of the 2 EEs.. was hoping to thin them out before long but i refuse until i have their breeds 110% for sure..lol.. guess I am a...
Do they have roost bars? I know my orps tend to favor a 2x4 laid wide side flat...they cant curl their toes around it like a normal roost, but i think with their weight it is more comfortable. I have had some not so smart birds over the years and have had to go out after dark and physically pick...
So...hoping now that this lil bit has grown and feathered some..someone can help.. still trying to decide if its a jubilee orp or possibly a speckled Sussex i guess (only other breed i can think of with this coloring).. but here is the baby..
*** Even if it is..it wont be quality..not...
I recently bought a book at TSC by Jessi Bloom called Free-Range Chicken Gardens..How to Create a Beautiful, Chicken-friendly Yard.. it has TONS of chicken friendly garden ideas, layouts, plants, etc.. its amazing!! Retail is 20$, i got it 50% off but even if u cant find it on sale, its one...
So, heres the chick in question.. Like I said, I'd LOVE for it to be a jubilee but certainly not holding my breath. Im 99.9% sure that its just wishful thinking, but wanted the opinion of those with way more experience than me. Its "rear heavy" like my mottled babies, and had that "big nostril"...
Does anyone think they could pick out a jubilee chick by a picture? I ordered a hatchery rare breed assortment just for the million in one odds i may get a jubilee. Well didn't think i did, but this one chick is "heavy in the rear" like my other Orp babies are and now is starting to feather out...

Your boy is beautiful!! I am really wanting to add jubilee, but the more I see these chocolate colors, the more I am thinking those will be next on my list. I bet you have the prettiest brooders around <3
I am so thankful that I dont have to make that choice. I have 4 brooders full right now, ages ranges from about 6 weeks(going outside as soon as the temps warm, should be tomorrow hopefully..waiting on this 15F temp to come and go) down to a group of assorted I ordered from a hatchery(hoping...
But in general (sorry I get sidetracked easily when it comes to feathers..) but look for a cocky chick that seems to watch the other chicks more than normal, boys will generally be the first to check u out when u mess with other chicks. .try picking up a chick that u know is a screamer and then...
Is there a way to share video on here? Was going to see if I could get a video of this oegb baby.. he was displaying roo behavior by 3 or 4 days.. he would attack my hand any time I did anything in the brooder.. it was very different from the curious "run over and see what that thing is" pecks...
I have some that are naturally curious and very friendly from an early age and the little boys will usually peck, puff their chests out and show rooster behavior.. do you wear rings? I know the babies in my youngest brooder (I have 3-4 for different ages), but the ones 2 weeks and under love...
I think that is what I read..the 1st Gen has about a 50/50 chance of being split correct? So I'd basically need to keep every baby I can hatch and do very controlled pair (maybe trio) breedings?
He is WOW.. I can't believe I overlooked these birds entirely bc of my opinion on hatchery buffs. I will admit, seeing my first jubilee in person (I'd never even seen pictures of one). That's what did me in. Of course I still don't have any jubilee but they are next on my list...
The 2 mottled are right at about the 1 year mark..maybe 11 months or 13, but very close. The lavender is about 9 months. Both girls have just started laying within the past month (those were eggs I did happy dances around d the farm over). I'd say she's definitely LF if bantam limit is 3# bc...
That totally shows my newbie status..lol.. they are so sweet. I have total strangers stop to ask "if I'll sell the pretty ones that look like they're wearing dresses"..Here is my lavender gal.. when taking pics, I realized she's not much smaller at all than the mottled girl, so she may be LF...
New here.. and pretty sure these 2 aren't imported, but I love them. I've owned many breeds and never liked the Orps..think for some reason the buffs from hatcheries always made me class them with hatchery production birds and that just wasn't what I wanted. However, last summer I found these...
