As if I don't give the feathery ones enough treats, yesterday I got them a 25# block of compressed seeds/nutrients for them to hone their pecking skills on.
I've been soaking dry beans of various sorts and boiling them on top of my wood stove that I use for heat. I dole them out daily until they are gone, heating them up just a bit in the micro to give them a warm treat. I toss about anything in with them and today they got a bean/blueberry dinner.
I had left over homemade pasta sauce but no pasta so I cooked up half a box of spaghetti for the feathery ones today to go with the sauce. It got down to zero last night and I felt they needed something warm.
I am lucky enough to be friends with the produce manager at my local supermarket and she keeps me a bag full of greens and assorted fruit for the kids every day.
