    I can't tell by the photos here but a blood ring will be a ring of blood along the shell encircling it. The bloodring means the embryo died and the blood drained out of the veins.     I don't know about wiring a dimmer on it (different guage wiring for the heat appliance) you could try a reostat from the hardware store.
