my mom had that same complaint...
if you are gonna get cancer, you should at least get to to loose weight.... at least that is what my mom said... she actually gained some, she was super bummed.

Sounds :drool worthy.... But I never did learn to make hashbrowns.... Noone in my family made those :idunno my grandparents were bacon, eggs, toast, blood sausage, pannes, kind of breakfast people.
Grilled cheese.... I could live on grilled cheese.... But I like to add "stuff" if I am living on it. Like just barely sauted sprouts or watercress. YUMM!!
@sourland your house has stable temps..... grow an indoor tomato plant. I got a pepper plant in my livingroom. it looks pretty sad.

Spouse and youngest child made homemade potato and garlic soup. Child #2 snagged ALL of the crispy onions that were supposed to go on...
Oooooh! Have a cool evening cocktail party for "THE NIGHT OF THE LAST TOMATO". Serve good food, have the last tomato as a center piece.
It would be fun.
yep, the enormity of the emotional toll of watching your parents slide down 'that' hill...... has surprised me.
(not specifically or only dementia.... but that entire downward slide)
