Oh crap, what have I done ...

A good idea - I too have thought about taking out one (or two?) of the four nest boxes and putting in additional roosts there. Once we get it and begin to assemble may make some modifications. As for cost, yes, it's pricey. However, to me its far worth the work I'd have to do to find something...

Oh crap, what have I done ...

Once all are grown and can be outside, they will reside at our place in NE WI. We have 40 acres and while they will be near the house, our neighbors are a ways down the road so shouldn't be an issue. Someone nearby does have a rooster. And I agree, if anyone fusses, I'm quite certain some free...

Oh crap, what have I done ...

I ordered mine from Meyer Hatchery located in OH - they come this week!!! Minimum order before March 30 was 8, after March 30 it's 3. I did a LOT of research and theirs was the hatchery that had the lowest minimum (which I was originally going to stick with ... until ... I saw other fun chickens...

Oh crap, what have I done ...

Thank you! Our slightly revised plan is: same birds, same coop but also a run that is not only connected to the coop but is now 10' long x 10' wide x 9' high with a door the non-coop side. This gives us/chickens a combined run total of 154 sq feet (there are 54 sq. feet underneath the coop are)...

Oh crap, what have I done ...

I'm so excited for this coop! I've had excellent CS from them and will make it all work. Talked to hubby today and are making an even bigger run for them. A lot of people I've talked to said that the coop is for resting and laying. The four next boxes are plenty and there are actually two roost...

Oh crap, what have I done ...

Thank you - good to hear from a current owner! I read a lot of reviews on them before buying and they had the best reviews around for a well-built coop within my price range. Can I ask if you purchased the winterized panels - as you are in NE WA? I'm still getting them as will help in keeping...

Oh crap, what have I done ...

Thanks to all! I am going to cancel a few of the chicks on the order - including the freebie. The coop is a go. Hubby does not want to deal with hauling/rebuilding/redoing a coop. Kudos to you all who have done that - they are awesome and neat to look at. In the event the birds are...

Yes. The winterize option covers all exposed area of screen EXCEPT the vents at the top.

Already in building process ... ships next week. Would building a bigger run for them help? Otherwise will have to take some chicks off the order ...

Oh crap, what have I done ...

Here's coop - will arrive in two weeks and will build. Have a large brooder set up that will do for first 4-5 weeks, then will move to a pen in our heated garage and stay until it's warm enough for them to be in coop. Husband will add on to the back side (there's a small chicken door) an 8x8x4...

Oh crap, what have I done ...

I'd prefer not to have a rooster but will raise it if it is. I called the hatchery and they said it would be a female if that's all I ordered (I did only order females). They will free range most of the day. May have to be in coop for a day or two if we are away. Husband is building an extra...

Oh crap, what have I done ...

Oh dear. I think I got a bad case of chicken fever and have gone slightly insane. I'll be a first time chicken-owner soon and bought a decent sized coop (says will hold up to 10 standard birds) and when I called the coop place (Root and Roost) they said it is substantial and could really fit 12...
