I'm starting to think it would be worth it to pay the $5 each to get the DNA test to just know early.

Cuckoo pattern is the little stripes, yes. However, since you said partridge & not cuckoo, I wonder what the parents were. I do have a couple of partridge that would appear to be cuckoo. However, the breeder doesn't have that pattern and I expect it to grow out. Also, I have a Cochin that had...

They are adorable. Please make sure you are offering chick grit, since you are feeding other food than chick crumbles it's important. I am the same about the he/she labeling. With the exception of silkies I seem to be almost always right from very early on. With these, I can be observing...

Sylvester, I'm sorry about your loss. This "rubber egg" you are referring to looks like a lash egg to me. With that in mind (in addition to your story) it would seem it was definitely humane to put her to rest. I'm sorry.

Who hatches their own silkies? Do you incubate differently? I saw on FB that someone said not to lockdown above 65%

T That makes me wonder... can eggs be carried aboard a plane? What would be needed? How about in luggage?

Got a new pic of my Showgirl. I have thought cockerel since hatch. So, I may be closed-minded. Here's a pic after his bath. I think we may be moving out of the really ugly stage, Finally!! I love the black that's developing in front of his head .

Did you give her polyvisol without iron? It resolved one of mine with wryneck. I now give it the first week to all my chicks in their feed.

Most of us that rear our chicks inside, take them outside at times, before the conversion. I would recommend chick grit in their feed that day, as they will be picking up various things to eat. You will need to stay with them, of course. They have no protection, or mother hen.

Our astralorpe, now called Miranda, was once called "Sickly" because she would do the chick death lay all-the-time.

Looks nice, I do worry about freezing in the winter. The horizontal ones don't hold water inside and so it's not a risk. I do have issue with algae in my containers sometimes and have to add something for that too.

Hey guys, Here are my showgirls that I hatched recently. The first was hatched about 6 weeks ago. At hatch, it looked like streamers in the back of head. Now, the feathers look a little shredded. What do you think? Today, I hatched 2 white Showgirls . Any clue about the naked comb area?

I'm not sure it will be an issue-- hope not... I'm thinking the focus will be on getting out the freaking door in the morning. In the dark they are safe .

I am curious what everyone's experience is. My big Roos didn't try to mate with my tiny Bantam hens. They were free range back then and there were plenty large fowl hens, maybe that's why.

    Silkie thread!

I hatched these a few weeks ago. Try to ignore the fermented food that is sometimes on the face. The first chick pic is a new hatch pic. I'm thinking that the white spots on toes may tell me this is a paint.

Congratulations! I've noticed partridge hatching in some different shades. For example, here are some of mine that hatched, the lighter color grew to be blue partridge. By the way, these look so much like my Bantam Mille Fleur Cochin that hatched this week. I can't see these pics well. I'm...
