    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

Ooh this seems like a very good idea! If I find a tyre I may well make it :)

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

Th Thanks very much! I'm just a bit confused about "He glued on a bigger round piece of heavy vinyl which hangs over the edge like a skirt. A handle attached on each side makes it easy to take on and off." What's this for?

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

Hmm, we have clay right under the topsoil. I suggest an artificial bath

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

Will have to get some tomorrow. It is only about a 3 by 3 foot one with a perch and 2 nesting boxes. Dust bath wont fit.

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

Our coop is far from the house... no other stoves and cant really afford one

Coops a small one I'm afraid

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

I think it would be too small :( My chooks aren't bantams. We plan on transforming a 6 by 8 shed and then we will put the dust bath in there but for now

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

I think that'll be a good idea. We have an electric drill, with some pretty good bits!

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

Will do! Hopefully the plastic won’t fracture with the screws... I’ll have to see :)

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

IT depends, we plan on a shallower one and a deeper one on top, and an overhang to make sure water drips off and not anywhere near it. Size? Depends, at least 1.5 foot in each dimension I think.

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

:D I like the idea, seems effective! But our dirt just seems to stay sooo wet until summer and then the chooks are covered in mud from 'mudbathing'. Plus I think an artificial one will be good! Sand, wood ash and maybe some herbs

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

Surprisingly there isn't much runoff. I dug a ditch to divert water and we are planning on putting up a tarpaulin. But the water is from the rain only now, and seemingly no runoff from up the hill...

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

Awesome. Yeah I do worry about the confined space and all the dust... maybe I'll install a vent

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

Thanks for the idea! We have something like that for our waterer/feeder made from roof felt and pallet wood. It wouldn't do a good enough job sadly :( the dirt would be wet soon

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

Yeah the box on top will be clear so plenty of light :) How much ventilation do you think? You said lots, but that is open to the eyes of the maker XD and I haven't kept chooks for long :)

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

I have had an idea myself... Please tell me if you think it'd work. You get two large 50l plastic storage containers, invert one on the other, screw them together. Then you put the dust bath in there and cut a chicken sized hole with a walk way up (plus holes for ventilation (many)) ?

    Keeping a dust bath dry?!

Love the idea but they are very expensive :( any cheaper options?
