I also appear to have woken up to 2 more broody hens this morning...lol, If I had just waited a few more weeks to hatch the chicks I'm keeping I could have let them do all the work. :gig
:hugs What kind of incubator are you using, where was the calibrated thermometer placed in the incubator, and how did you calibrate the thermometer? Chicks hatching that late sounds like low temperature.
Welcome to the world little top coat/base coat!! Lol
Yes! Gunmetal Glitter is doing fantastic! That hatch was 100% hatch rate actually! My friend has her now.
The 11 chicks that I think I will be growing out this year! The bigger dark blue chick is from the first hatch, she's the only Polkie I kept. Then there is 1 Wheaten Marans, 4 White Ameraucanas, 4 Lavender Ameraucanas, and I THINK 1 Olive Egger. I didn't mean to keep an Olive Egger but one chick...
It's so true! I hatch a lot of chicks every year but I'm always tempted to keep some...or all, lol!
Most of mine have already gone to new homes. I'm down to 11 of 54 chicks that hatched and I'm trying to decide which one's to keep! Lol, I may have to grow them out and keep my favorites.
Definitely from pipping through a blood vessel. Most of the time they ok when this happens they just take a little longer to hatch because the blood loss obviously makes them sleepy. I know people have lost chicks that pipped through blood vessels, so it happens, but most of the time they're ok...
WOW! I'm so glad she's still doing well! I thought for sure it would be a tough update with that big of a hernia! I'm sorry about the other loss though. :hugs
Yes, too high of humidity can build up condensation inside the egg as well and once the chick pips internally they can drown in that fluid if it's that wet in there.
