Unfortunately I'm having some challenges myself recently. My partner has taken over duck duty for me as I am about to have spinal surgery. I miss my quackers, but I hear that they are doing well. I can hear Pigweed shout quacking at me from inside the house - entitled as always she wants me...

Yes. I frequently can't find the Murder Beast. Occasionally I manage to follow the "one duck eyeball stare" and it's a ferocious rabbit or an airplane. A few times I actually spotted a real bird of prey. I was incredibly proud of myself. Then I was the crazy lady shouting at the bird. I...

I've only offered my ducks sugar snap peas that I pulled from the pod. I'd harvested them just seconds prior, and my ducks had seen me eating them - a good way to get them to eat new stuff! They were super excited to try the peas. But then every duck spit them out in disgust, turned their...

What kind of peas? Like frozen thawed? Canned? Fresh from the garden?

My precious snobs would say, "that's not tiny red grape tomatoes carefully quartered... Therefore it must be poison!" I'm proud of your ducks' adventurous spirit.

7 years for me. :hit Ducklings are amazing. But Pigweed is pretty special now that she's an old lady, too. 💖

I just found an old video of my babies. The one stepping in the oatmeal is Pigweed. Disclaimer: I didn't usually let them eat so much snack food! I promise!

Sweeter heater? My older girls like theirs. Though I admit it took weeks of putting treats near and then under it for them to accept that it's not actually a scary hover monster but a cozy place. Ducks. 🙄

Super adorable!! My ducks forget about snow every year and rediscover it. Usually they don't love it, but love being outside so much that they tolerate it and play in it most of the day. This year they hate it and stay inside all day.

I feel your pain. My girls are total snobs, too. All food that hasn't been eaten regularly is surely poison and they will literally turn their backs on it. They are so picky that tiny bright red grape tomatoes are their favorite. They turn their bills up at other tomatoes, even though they...

Thimbleberry used to watch me take the eggs. I wanted to know how my ducks felt about me taking their eggs, so I squatted down and held my hand open with eggs in it. Thimble ran over, pecked, and broke the egg! Then she looked up at me like, "what?" Then I realized that I was in "mealworm...

I've never done that, or seen it done. I wouldn't think it would be comfortable for the ducks and I would be worried that it might hurt them. But I could be wrong. I carry mine, when I need to, by holding their wings to their bodies in a natural position like they keep their wings when...

Mine was an abandoned pond rescue. She did live for 7 years. But had life saving surgery at about 1.5-2 years of age. Foot problems, reproductive issues, more surgery (at the vet). So yeah, she had a long life but it was very expensive. She was also an amazing friend.

Cori, I'm so sorry to hear about Penny. I understand how hard it is. Quality of life has been a priority for me with my ducks as well, but of course I don't want to let them go too soon either. With Thimbleberry I spoke with her vets a lot about pain. They told me that ducks get puffy, and...
