Back now and catching up. I spent all day driving to and from the Bay Area to try out and buy a new violin. I may have to go out and serenade the chickens now.
Those button quail are adorable. I can't imagine how tiny those eggs must have been.
My husband always did the deed and I thought handing the birds to him to kill was hard. Then, last year, he hurt his hand before butcher day and I had to, ah, get more involved. I almost dropped the first chicken, and was shaking pretty hard after it was done. Very glad his hand is healed...
I'm trying to breed my own meat birds, this year, so I need to get ruthless with the subtraction.
Once the deed is some, I'm OK with eating them. I just hate the choosing of the subtractees part.

I need to do this very soon. I've got a few hens I need to move along to make room for a spring hatch. I'm waiting to get some hatching eggs from some of my held over meat birds, and then its off to freezer camp for them and a couple of others.

Ditto that. For areas near the electrical part, I use a can of compressed air to blow the fluff out. I like sitting it in sunshine for a few hours too.
