I got them from someone who got the eggs from the San Diego Zoo. There may be people about who still have them.
They were very cool. Small birds that fly well.
Def sounds like temp issue.
Need to calibrate thermometer.
I used to have these and they popped out like popcorn. I candle much less that others I feel.
Problem was finding people who wanted the chicks.
You may also need to take into consideration all the cooling that occurred each time you opened the bator to turn, and the multiple times you took out all the eggs to mark the air cells. That may delay hatch.
As for the dry membrane- it is going to get dry if the bator gets opened to check on...
100% agree.
In fact just candle at day 10 to toss the duds, and again at day 17 prior to lockdown and then walk away...
Best hatches happened on weekdays when there was no chance of fiddling
